Research On Sustainable Development Of University City Of China In The New Era

With the implement of the strategic idea of invigorating the country throughscience and education, as well as of urbanization, a large amount of highly-qualifiedtalents were in need in China. Therefore, the popularization of higher educationbecame an inevitable requirement. China began to implement the policy of universityenrollment since1999, during when universities expanded and integrated, a dozenuniversity cities were constructed with a variety of social resources. The constructionof university city promoted the development of regional economy, optimized thedevelop space of city, and satisfied the need of higher education of residents,contributed to the improvement of human quality. The policy of university enrollmentcontinued for15years long, however, the amount of adolescents tended to reduction,led the reduced scale of university entrance, which indicated the college enrollmentprocess had crossed the vertices and entered a period of adjustment. The universitycity also faced the problem of low integration with city, lack of carrying and servicescapacity, acted more like “combination of university” than “whole town”. Besides, thelow degree of related industry development influenced the development of urbancivilization in a certain extent. Currently, the university city brought some problemsas land prices derived and pollutant emission, disturbed local eco-environmentbalance. The negative effects were prominent. To achieve the sustainabledevelopment, the university city needed transition.In this research, the investigation was implemented with the sample of Changqinguniversity city. Based on the research status at home and abroad, development basisand efficiency of university city, this research put forward the bottleneck factor ofsustainable development. It took research with university students in university cityby the way of questionnaires at same time, based on which put forward the idea andpolicy of sustainable development of university city. The conclusions include:Firstly, there were both outstanding efficiency and serious problem in Changqinguniversity city. The construction of Changqing university city promoted thedevelopment of Regional economy, optimized the develop space of city, and satisfied the need of higher education of residents. But there were still problems as unreasonable planning and construction, shortage of resource sharing and potentialsafety risks.Secondly, as main body of university city, college students had differentperception on university city. The investigation included four aspects includingplanning and construction, function of university city, situation of resource sharingand negative effect.Thirdly, there should be multiple goals and means in university city development.The goals included function maturing, college opening and cultural heritage. Themeans included enhancing integration with industries, taking Jinan innovative valleyas emphasis, integration with main city through establishing transportation system,integration with enterprises in production, study and research.Fourthly, comprehensive measures should be taken in sustainable development ofuniversity city, such as management changing, transportation system optimizing,development policy improvement and investment mechanisms innovation.This research analyzed the sustainable development situation of university city,aimed to provide support and reference for construction of university city in the future,enhancing the scientific, foresight and sustainability of construction. The research ofuniversity not only had a certain practicality on Changqing university city, but alsohad relative high reference value for other university cities.
