The contemporary Chinese mainstream culture is the country’s fundamental value,is the source of national cohesion, is the priority among priorities of social ideologyand national cultural security. In the21st century, to make our country from anancient cultural country into a powerful cultural country, we must strengthen thecontemporary mainstream culture’s construction, and enhance the degree ofrecognition of the contemporary Chinese mainstream culture.College students are the backbone of China’s future social development. They areactive in thinking, ego consciousness, and have a strong desire for success. However,students are also in the formative of ideals and beliefs, they are vulnerable to new andexciting temptation unhealthy culture, which will make them form the wrongvalue-oriented, and thus they doubt or deny the contemporary Chinese mainstreamculture’s values. Faced with this situation, China’s ideological and political educationworkers should according to college students’ characteristics, understand theircultural needs, and focus on psychological counseling, let students experience thecontemporary Chinese mainstream culture’s humanities concern, so as to promote thestudents’ acceptance of mainstream culture in contemporary China.In this paper, based on the concepts and related theory of college students’identity of the contemporary Chinese mainstream culture, the author has made aninvestigation on it. The survey results show that college students’ identity of thecontemporary Chinese mainstream culture in general consistent with the mainstreamideology-oriented, but college students in the aspect of cognitive, emotion identityand behavioral identity still exist some problems. Through further analysis, the mainreasons for these problems embodied in the mainstream culture itself, culturaltransmission, school education, the students themselves. Finally, according to thestatus and problems of college students’ identity of the contemporary Chinesemainstream culture, there are some strategies to solve these problems. The promotionstrategies are based on the principles of dominance and diversity; the ideal and reality;collective and individual; the unity of theory and practice. On the basis of theseprinciples, some specific strategies are as follows, to enrich and develop themainstream culture, and promote college students’ identity of the mainstreamculture’s emotional awareness; to innovate and optimize the mode of transmission, and promote college students’ identity of the mainstream culture’s rationalrecognition; to improve educational methods and means, and promote the collegestudents’ identity of the mainstream culture’s emotional acceptance; pay attention tothe students physical and mental development, and promote college studentsexperience of the mainstream culture identity.
