Silence, as a form of nonverbal communication, constitutes the human communication with speech. However, the silence has its own situational and ambiguity largely determines its dual nature in content and bipolar nature in function. From the general interpersonal communication to the specific context of classroom teaching, classroom silence also have features like those, which brings negative impact to hinder the emotional expression between teachers and students as well as teaching. Left-behind children’s family background and educational environment impact their development of self-awareness, emotions and attitudes to some extent, thus contributing to its class performance behavior has distinctive features compare with other students.This paper selects nine towns Junior High School in Shaoyang County, takes various research methods include literature research, questionnaires, interviews, class observation etc., to analyze and compare the classroom behavior of teachers and left-behind students respectively, comes to the result that the phenomenon of classroom silence in junior high left-behind students is very common. Then classify the left-behind students’ silence behavior in English classroom, analysis of the reasons leading to this current situation from family education, school teaching, students’ individual and socio-cultural factors, put forward correspondent recommendations and the main strategies to break the left-behind students’ classroom silence and promote the comprehensive development of junior high school students which is the point of this thesis. To break the left-behind students’ classroom silence, the paper recommends the following four aspects:distinction classroom silence, create a good educational environment, designed exploratory dialogue for teaching needs, promoting the overall development of students. Finally, the conclusion summarizes the focus of this paper, point outs the deficiencies of the study and the direction for further research.
