The Curriculum Standard for English emphasize that teaching should be based on the learning interest, life experience and level of awareness.It advocates a learning style of experiencing, practicing, participating and cooperating, to make the language learning process a process of forming positive emotional attitude,active thinking and practicing for students.The characteristics of situational teaching including visual image,edutainment student autonomy, which is suitable to the English subject and cognitive features of primary school students.To start with, the thesis reviews the English situational teaching theory and give a introduction of constructivism theory,which holds the view that learning is not the passive acceptance of knowledge but an active process in which the learners construct their own meaning. And context, cooperation, conversation and meaning construction are important factors of learning environment. The thesis attempts to summarize the key factors of the English situational teaching in primary school by in-depth classroom observation and case analyzing. And then.strategies are presented according to the theory and case analysis described above,including paying attention to students’original knowledge, contacting actual, creating interactive teaching environment and so on. The dissertation is divided into four parts.Chapter one:Introduction. It depicts the background and significance of the thesis. Besides, It also depicts the summary of the achievements in this field, the direction of the research and the main methods adopted by the thesis. Chapter two:Overview of English situational teaching in primary school. It elaborates the connotation, characteristics and type.Besides,the constructivism theory and meaning of the English situational teaching are presented here. Chapter three:Cases and cases analysis of the English situational teaching. Chapter four:It probes into the strategies and methods about English situational teaching in primary school on the basis of constructivism theory and combining it with teaching practice.
