When the national basic cultural quality and the economic income level are progressively increasing, the quality education is prone to take the place of examination-oriented education and gradually becomes the subject of China's nine-year compulsory education, the situational teaching has already exerted an imperceptible influence on family education and other education institutions through the ways of antenatal education and pre-school education. As the world's most widely used language, English has become the promotion of China's economic and cultural development of cognitive engine. As a result, almost all the parents put the English learning on their higher agenda. It is admittedly that the primary school is a key stage to stimulate students' interests in all the subjects. Therefore, the primary school implementing the situational teaching is not only a trend, but also an urgent need. It can not only lay a solid foundation for the learning in future, it also contributes the children's early contact to foreign cultures through the English situational communication, which is a brilliant teaching method.In this paper, the author summarizes the theoretical researches on situational teaching method both in China and abroad, focusing on the research results of English situational teaching. At the same time, combining with more than ten years of primary school English teaching experience, teaching cases and the analysis reports of questionnaire surveys, the author systematically describe the importance, necessity and operability from the aspects of "sound, media, painting and acting". What's more, the author attempts to put some new elements into the practice of situational teaching, such as the e-book, tablet PCs and some other new media, which facilitates to enrich and perfect the teaching contents and methods. In this article, the author hopes the theory can afford some actual, effective and practicable help for other teachers in the primary English teaching.The thesis is divided into six parts, which chiefly includes the theoretical background and evolution in the situational teaching both at home and abroad, the classic cases and documentation analysis, the base of the study and its current development, the report of the questionnaire analysis, the practical case and method, the weakness and its development direction in the further study.
