Research About Development Of Humanities And Social Sciences In Southwest Comprehensive Universities And Engineering Universities

In this paper, comprehensive universities and engineering universities "211" of southwest area are selected as the research objects. Through comparing the five factors such as the input of scientific researchers, subjects, funds expenditures, research achievements and scientific institutions of these universities, this paper concludes the development differences of humanities and social sciences between comprehensive universities and engineering universities. After analyzing the differences, this paper gives suggestions on the future development of humanities and social sciences of these two types of universities.The paper explained the development differences of humanities and social sciences in comprehensive universities and engineering universities from two major aspects of development process and academic characteristics of these two types of universities. From the view of development process of humanities and social sciences, the development process in comprehensive universities is longer than engineering universities. From the view of academic characteristics of comprehensive universities and engineering universities, these two types of universities on the humanities and social sciences degree of attention will inevitably differ because of their discipline characteristic differences.According to the reasons of development differences of humanities and social sciences in comprehensive universities and engineering universities, the paper put forward some suggestions of the development of humanities and social sciences. To the comprehensive universities,"boutique" consciousness should be set up based on existing state and applied research should be strengthened based on theoretical research. As for engineering universities, they should not only make a reasonable position for humanities and social sciences but also establish distinctive humanities and social sciences combined with their own subject characteristics. In addition, engineering universities need to increase investment to provide a good platform for the development of humanities and social sciences.
