In recent years, the various emergencies appearing in colleges and universities havedrawn more public interest and concern. And by means of the new media, their negativesocial influence has been spread through various ways of information transmission in awide scope. The emergencies in colleges and universities always disrupt the normal stateof management and operation, the normal teaching schedule, and the proper order of thelearning and living environment for teachers and students. Some emergencies will evenseriously damage the social image of the school. Therefore, under the background ofbuilding a harmonious society, to build a peaceful and stable campus environment, to givefull scope to the ideological and political education’s impact on emergency management incolleges and universities, to cope with the emergencies in colleges and universities in abetter way, to fulfill the undergraduates’ ideological and political education work in ascientific, efficient and down-to-earth way, have become important issues facing themodern society.The happening of emergencies in Colleges and universities is directly connected to thepermeation of the negative factors in the society into the college students, the faultiness ofthe school management system, and the psychological problems of individual students.Nowadays, the unsoundness of the information feedback mechanism, the deficiency ofinformation feedback ways, the neglect of the prevention of emergencies, the lack ofscientific method in the process of dealing with the emergency events, and that the workof the ideological and political education hasn’t been fulfilled deeply enough, are the mainproblems of the emergency management in colleges and universities.This paper aims to study the emergencies in colleges and universities. Throughconsulting and summarizing the related resources of emergency management in collegesand universities at home and abroad, this paper explores the new role of ideological andpolitical education in each phase of emergency management in colleges and universities.This paper illustrates the two perspectives–the ideological and political education and theemergencies in colleges and universities, and it elaborates the dialectical relationshipbetween the two. Also, it sums up the current situation of emergency management incolleges and universities in China, and analyzes the related reasons.Through an in-depth discussion, this text summarized the roles of ideological andpolitical education in the emergency management in colleges and universities: the previous preventing and guiding role, the buffering and guiding function when copingwith the emergencies, the placating and recovering function in the later phase. Regardingto the three roles that have been proposed, some suggestions and measures are put forwardfrom different perspectives, including establishing the students’ dominant position,innovating the propaganda way, constructing the information feedback mechanism,carrying out arts activities, and introducing “Art Therapy”, etc.This paper mainly adopts the following research methods: the method of integratingtheory with practice, the literature research method, the method of comparative analysis,and the case study method, etc. The innovation points of this paper are mainly manifestedin two aspects: firstly, concerning all the stages of the emergencies management incolleges and universities, it extracts the new function of ideological and political education,and meanwhile puts forward the corresponding countermeasures; secondly, it’s the firsttime to introduce the arts activities that can be implemented in a reasonable and effectiveway, and “Art Therapy” into the emergencies management on campus.
