Since1978, national leaders put forward the reform and opening-up policy in the3rd session of the11th congress, with the improvement of national income, the gapbetween urban and rural income has increased. The expansion of the incomedistribution gap restricts the sustainable development of our economy, and brings aseries of social problems, increases the contradictions among the people; it is notconducive to the peaceful and stable development of China’s socialist society. And,education as a most important way of human capital investment, the gap between it hasa great influence on the income gap, even can be said to be a decisive influence.Compared with the urban areas, the rural areas have poor educational conditions, theylack education facilities and government investment, so the farmers have a low level ofproductivity and the rural areas have a poor economy, and the advanced education inurban areas will bring a rapid development of economy and high income to the urbanresidents, and that cycle repeats, it will lead to the poor in rural areas get poorer, and therich in urban areas get richer, the income gap between rural and urban areas willbecome wider. So, it has a great significance for us to study the gap between urban andrural education how to impact on the income gap between urban and rural areas.In this paper, we choose provinces in western region of China as the researchobject, after discussing the theories about education and income gap between urban andrural areas and their interaction mechanism, we analyze the present situation and trendof the rural-urban education gap and income gap, and determine the measure index ofthe rural-urban education gap and income gap. After calculating the correspondingindex data, we use the measuring software EVIEWS6.0to make an empirical analysis.On this basis, from the perspective of improving education gap, we put forward somesuggestions about narrowing the income gap between urban and rural areas in westernregion.This paper is divided into five chapters: the first chapter mainly introduces thebackground significance of the study, main contents, research methods, technicalscheme, the innovation place, etc.; The second chapter mainly introduces the conceptabout education and income, the theories about education and income gap, and after that,we sort and summarize the viewpoint of the relationship between education andrural-urban income gap in domestic and foreign literatures. The third chapter reflects thepresent situation and development trend of the education gap between urban and rural areas in western region through the establishment of index system, at the same time, itreflects the situation of rural-urban income gap, rural internal income gap and urbaninternal income gap in western area through the income difference between urban andrural areas, urban and rural income ratio and theil index, Finally, we make acontribution analysis between the rural-urban income gap and overall income gap; Thefourth chapter is the empirical part of this article, it reflects the influence of theeducation gap between urban and rural areas to the income gap between urban and ruralareas through the econometric model, and make a detail explanation to the result; Thefifth chapter is on the basis of previous analysis, from the angle of improving theeducation gap between urban and rural areas, we put forward we put forward somesuggestions about narrowing the income gap between urban and rural areas in westernregion.
