Games are the basic activities for children, which can meet the requirements of children’s phsical and mental development, thus promoting the comprehensive development of children. Games in kindergartens are organized and carried out by the teachers under the macroscopic attention of the whole educational objective and have become the basic activities as well as an important organizational form in the educational scheme in kindergartens. Demonstrative kindergartens, just as the name implies, are the kindergartens that can have demonstration effects on other kindergartens in the local area. Based on practices, this research would have a thorough observation of the games and activities in demonstrative kindergartens, understand the current situation of the quality of games in demonstrative kindergartens, and provide some suggestions to the improvement of the quality of games in demonstrative kindergartens.This research would mainly adopt the documentary method and observational method. Fourty two classes from fourteen demonstrative kindergartens in Changsha are selected purposefully as the smaples, and carry on a week-long game activities observation for every sample class. Apart from that, the No.5sub-scale "games and activities" in "Educaiton qualty scale of Childcare institutions in China (trial version)(the second version)" is scored. The concusion is as follows:(1) The quality of games in demonstrative kindergartens has reached the minimum requirement, and there are obvious differences among the quality of various activities. To be specific, the quality of fine art games is higher than other games and activities, while the quality of sand/water games is relatively lower.(2) Although there is no difference in the quality of art games, fine manipulable games and maths games, these three games are different from any other games in quality. Sand or water games are significantly different from any other games. There is no obvious difference in the quality of role and drama games, construction games, nature and science games, music games and audio video equipments use.(3) The quality of games in demonstrative kindergartens has reached the minimum requirement, and there are obvious differences among the quality of various activities. To be specific, the quality of fine art games is higher than other games and activities, while the quality of sand/water games(4) There are conspicuous differences among the quality of games from classes of different ages in demonstrative kindergartens. There are significant disparities among the quality of games in first-stage, second-stage and third-stage classes, while there ar eno significant differences between the quality of games in second-stage classes and that of third-stage classes. The quality of acitivities of the bottom class in a kindergarten is lower than that of middle class and top class.(5) There are significant differences between the quality of games in state-run demonstrative kindergartens and that of civilian-run demonstrative kindergartens; There is no significant differences among the quality of games in kindergartens run by enterprise and public institutions, governments and local people. The quality of games in public exemplary kindergartens is better than that of private exemplary kindergartens. Based on the quality evaluation of games in demonstrative kindergartens, this research would put forward the following suggestions to improve the quality of games in demonstrative kindergartens:emphasize on the balance between the play activities;enrich the materials of game’s and expand the game space;increase chances for children to choose materials freely and ensure the playtime;enhance the richness and relevance of gamens;focis on children’s expression of emotions, provide multiple suitable guidances and pay attention to individualized guidance.
