The Evaluation Of Regional Differences Of Tourism Resources Endowment And Development In Shaanxi Province

Shaanxi Province is an important birthplace of Chinese civilization, and is rich in bothcultural and natural tourism resources. Shaanxi has many tourism resources types, and eachof them has their different levels. So Shaanxi is one of the largest tourism provinces. GuanZhong region, as well as the northern areas of Shaanxi and southern areas of Shaanxiconstitute a rich and colorful landscape of cultural and natural. The tourism resources in thesethree areas exists many differences in the quantities, levels, development and utilization.Understanding the distribution, the types, levels, and features of regional tourism resourceshas a fundamental impact on how to develop tourism resources, and also plays a guiding roleon how to reduce the regional differences, and in this way, it provides suggestions forexploring and coordinating regional tourism resources of Shaanxi Province comprehesively.In this paper, we analysis the data of Shaanxi Tourism resources from2003to2009. Forthe first, we expound the tourism resources in Shaanxi Province,using the theory ofregional tourism resources endowment and development, and then describe the presentsituation of tourism resources, including distribution, type, levels and features, also evaluatethe tourism resources development from the construction of new scenic spots, eco-tourismexperienced products and product diversification. Next, we use SWOT theory to analysis thestrengths, weaknesses, development opportunities and threatens of tourism resources inShaanxi Province; then mainly use the methods of comparative analysis and resourceadvantages evaluation, such as abundance index (dij),coordinate index (x), the standarddeviation index (cv), the overall dominance (z), to have a quantitatively comparition of thetourism resources endowment and exploiton in11cities in Shaanxi Province; Finally,summary this paper we present some policy recommendations on the direction, theimportance, the efficiency and the protection of the regional tourism resource development,in order to have the advantages allocation and integration of regional tourism resources.By analysing and comparing characteristics of tourism resource endowments in theeleven cities, we can recognizing that the differences directly affect the development degree, size, direction and focus of local tourism resources development, also can understand thestrengths, weaknesses, development opportunities and threatens of tourism resources inShaanxi Province will have a directly influence on how to grasp the characteristics ofresources, how to establish local tourism brand, and how to implement intra-regional tourismresources integration and regional integration in these three regions. We can recognize that inorder to keep the regional tourism alive, local government should continuouly develop newscenic spots, and keep tourism products changing with times, so that it could meet tourists’psychological differences. The overall characteristics of the tourism resources in Shaanxi isbig quantity, high taste, significant features and diversities; however, from the existedlandscape structure and tourism products structure, we find some problem such as shallowlevel and the short types of landscape, the structure of product can not fully satisfy moderndiversification of tourists’ demand. So, to develop Shaanxi Tourism need to specifically planthe development of regional tourism resources, and coordinate the regional tourism resourcedevelopment with reasonable solutions.
