With the development of the global economy, environmental problems have gotincreasingly widespread attention in the worldwide. As the pilot province of energysaving and emission reduction, it is practically significant to make a research onGuangdong’s energy consumption. Guangdong is mainly an export-orientedeconomy, embodied-energy in the foreign trade accounts for a large ratio in its wholeenergy consumption, the embodied energy in the foreign trade is waiting for us to dosome research, so that we can offer the advice and reference for the policy of theadjustment of product structure and foreign trade mode in the near future.Firstly, this paper uses input-output matrix to estimate the embodied energy inthe foreign trade of Guangdong from2002to2010, and dissects the relationshipbetween the foreign trade pattern and the energy consumption in Guangdong. Thedata shows that Guangdong’s embodied energy in import and export trade are bothincreasing, from2002to2010, excluding2003and2005, Guangdong is a netimporter, in other year a net exporter of embodied energy, which reflects thatenergy-intensive products accounts for a large ratio in Guangdong’s foreign tradeproducts, the quality of foreign trade (including environment) has been falling.Secondly, combining the Kaya equation and the LMDI method, the paperdoes some analysis on the three influence factors of the embodied energy’s changesof Guangdong: technical effect, scale effect and structural effect. The data shows thatthe technical effect is an immediate factor in reducing the embodied energy; theexpansion of the import and export scale are the main reason to the increase of theembodied energy; the structural effect has both positive effects and negative impactson the changes of the embodied energy, on the whole the effect is positive. Finally, connected with the above analysis, the writer proposes someconstructive policy advice. By means of improving energy efficiency, promoting theadjustment of the industrial structure in foreign trade, controlling the rate ofeconomic growth reasonably and so on, Guangdong would reduce its energyconsumption and realize sustainable development between local economic andsociety.
