The residents’ consumption structure can not only reflect the quality of life in one country orregion, but also can be used to measure the socio-economic development of the country orregion. Therefore, the study of residents’ consumption structure is not only the core issue ofconsumer economic theory, but also an important issue related to the macroeconomicdevelopment. Pearl River Delta is the economic development pacesetter of GuangdongProvince even the whole country, urban residents as the main consumer of the Pearl RiverDelta, the changes in consumption structure play a strong window and exemplary role. Sincethe beginning of the new era,China has entered the third stage of consumption structurewhich rely on development and enjoyment consumption. The economic development of theregion will be more instructive through studying the characteristics of urban residents in thePearl River Delta region in the third upgrade of consumption structure phase, and drawinglessons from the process. This paper studied the change characteristics of urban residents’consumption structure in the Pearl River Delta from2000to2010year through manyindexes and ELES Model which combine cross data and panel data. Finally, manysuggestion like increase people’s income, strengthen macro-economic control, and activelyimplement a variety of consumer promotional tools were proposed according to the specificcharacteristics of the urban residents’ consumption structure in the Pearl River Delta.
