Territorial Division Of Service Industries In Beijing Metropolitan Area And Its’ Changes

Beijing, as the capital of our country, its’ service industries developed rapidly and the status enhanced significantly. Especially accompanied by upgrading of industrial structure, service industries were increasingly becoming the core of urban economy. Its’intra-urban spatial layout had important impact on the reconstruction of urban spatial structure. Therefore, research on territorial division of service industries is especially necessary. In this article, we first made a review of the study on the spatial distribution of service industries in China and abroad, then we analyzed the characteristics and changes of regional specialization and division of service industries in Beijing metropolitan area with the index of regional specialization, Herfindahl index and correspondence analysis methods, based on the first basic unit census and the second economic unit census of Beijing. And then we analyzed the characteristics and changes of functional specialization of service industries in Beijing metropolitan area based on the first and second economic unit census of Beijing. We selected four software companies from the world’s top500companies and four software companies from China top500companies, and made an empirical analysis of the functional division of the8companies in the Beijing metropolitan area. At last, we further explored the factors which caused the changes of territorial division in Beijing metropolitan area. There are some main conclusions:(1) Distribution of services in the internal space of the Beijing metropolitan area is different, showing the characteristics of the geographical division of labor, and the division at district level was more obviously than that at region level. The regional specialization and division of service industries in Beijing metropolitan area exhibited trend of strengthen at region level, but every district changed differently. Industrial division of service industries has been weakened in Beijing metropolitan area. (2)The service industries in Beijing metropolitan area has appeared functional specialization for the central city and suburban areas-based management and technology development of high-tech features, the outer suburbs areas-based the low-tech test and aftermarket capabilities at region level and Haidian, the original Xicheng district-based management and technology development of high-tech features, Fengtai, Fangshan, Mentougou, Shunyi and Tongzhou district-based the low-tech test and aftermarket capabilities at county level. The software in Beijing metropolitan area has appeared functional specialization for Haidian and the original Xicheng district-based management and technology development of high-tech features, Mentougou and Shunyi district-based the low-tech manufacturing capabilities at county level. Management and technical R&D function of Xibeiwang town is significantly and sales of Tsinghua University Park and Wangjing Development Zone street is more powerful. Large software enterprises’ R&D function of Zhongguancun Software Park and management capabilities of CBD is significant.(3) There are many factors affect the territorial division of service industries. Technological advances, the market environment and government action caused territorial advances of service industries change in Beijing metropolitan area. Technological progress brought the territorial division change of service industries by influencing corporate behavior and spatial organization to change, while market environment and government by providing condition for multi-location development.
