Research Leading Industry Group China Border Areas

Since the reform and opening up, the economic growth rate of China’s border areas was significantly behind the national average, and far behind the eastern coastal areas. Why our border areas such as coastal areas, not only did not become a growth point of China’s economic development, but more backward than the national average?Leading industry group is not only the backbone of economic growth, more interested in other industries diffusion effect, thus contributing to the economic growth of a country or a region.And the constant turnover of leading industry group is the escalating industrial structure, but also is a country or regional economic growth process. Frontier of economic development in China was lagging behind, which is also a large extent caused by the relative backwardness of the leading industry group.In this paper, the reasons for the slow economic development of the border areas in China are analyzed from the view of the development of leading industry group:First, by summarizing the results of the previous research on leading industries, the paper constructs a leading industrial group evaluation system, including location quotient, technological progress, influence coefficient and sensitivity coefficient;Secondly, with the industrial sector data of China’s border areas, the paper identifis the leading industrial group of China’s border areas, which are mainly concentrated in resource-intensive industries such as energy and raw materials. The leading industry groups of China’s northeast border mainly concentrated in the energy industry with higer technology, the Northwest Frontier had one leading industry as petroleum processing and coking and nuclear fuel processing industry, and the southwest border mainly concentrated in the resource-based raw materials;Thirdly, for the location advantage of the China’s border areas, the paper analyzes the effect of opening along the border with grange ccausality test, found that the open border does not effectively promote the formation and development of the leading industry group. The reasons for this phenomenon can be explored from six factors, including rich natural conditions, policy emphasis on resource industries, poor traffic conditions and openness weak and neighboring countries with similar resource conditions and poor economic conditions;Finally, in order to the leading industry group truly become a force for economic development of the border areas in China, the paper argues that export-oriented path should be used to optimize the leading industrial group of China’s border areas, and the direction of the optimization of the Northeast Frontier is the high-tech industries, the direction of the optimization of the Northwest Frontier is the new type of light industry, the optimal direction of the southwest border is the new industries such as new energy, new materials and bio-pharmaceutical industry.
