Research On Regional Economic Development In Gansu Hui

The region where Hui lives in Gansu province, is one of areas where earlier Hui nationality formed in China. It is an Hui area with special socio-economic structure and regional spatial structure. Its economic development has strong historical and ethnic characteristics. At present, Western China has entered a new stage of development, a critical time of industry transfer from east to the central area. Therefore it is of great significance to focus on economic development of Gansu Hui area. Modernization of economic development is the inevitable choice.This research takes Gansu Hui region as a whole, to further analyze the differences of various inner sides of this region. Paths of economic development are proposed on the basis of seeking common ground while reserving differences. From the perspective of ethnic economics, more concern is attached to ethnic factors which influence economic development of Gansu Hui region. It scientifically analyzes the influences of religion on Hui economic development, such as influences of sects and Islan Menhuan system on Hui economic development; analyzes the relationship between ethnic culture and economic development, then points out a unique path for local economic development, including Hui economic and cultural construction, developing directions of economy with regional characteristics.First, the paper reviews the history of Hui nationality in Gansu, starting with the spread of Islam during the Tang dynasty in Gansu, with the formation of the Hui nationality as a clue, by summarizing the four historical periods, it introduces the formation of the Hui region. The current status of Hui region is discussed then. Formation of Hui area is closely related to its natural geographical and cultural conditions. Based on those, the internal characteristics and differences of nature, culture,and population in local area are analyzed in length. Secondly, based on traditional economic development in Hui area, space structure, industrial structure and ownership structure of traditional economy are analyzed. Taking this as the starting point to observe the types of traditional economic development so as to discover the disadvantages in economic development and specifically note the factors affecting their economic development. Through analysis on history and current status of economic development in Hui area, we realize the urgency of economic modernization in Hui area. The purpose of this research is to find a way to develop economy in Gansu Hui area. It is not just a theoretical discussion, but a thorough understanding of the real local situation. From perspective of ethnic economic adaptability, a common road for Hui economic and modern economic development has been found in here. Only by raising the level of urbanization and balancing urban and rural development, constructing Hui economic and cultural circles, as well as strengthening cooperation with external region, can the macro-objectives of economic restructuring be achieved.In the last part of this thesis, operability of economic modernization in Hui region is demonstrated. From the perspective of microeconomics path for economic modernization is analyzed, thus economy with regional characteristics is proved to be the right economy style for Hui in Gansu.
