An Empirical Study On The Relationship Between Carbon Emissions And Economic Growth In Liaoning Province

The climate crisis and economic crisis is pushing the global economy experienced a big change. Under the new situation, the economic growth mode at the price of "high energy consumption, high pollution and high emissions" is facing a transformation pressure from inside and outside. From to control the energy intensity as the target transformation to control carbon emissions intensity as the target is the qualitative change of energy-saving and emissions reduction policies of China. To control carbon emissions intensity, we should not only improve the efficiency of energy utilization but also change the structure of coal-based energy consumption and develop clean energy and related technology. This will have a significant impact on China’s economic growth mode. Based on those mentioned before, this paper analyses the relationship between carbon emission and economic growth in Liaoning Province in order to provide decision basis for energy conservation and emissions reduction policy in liaoning province.This article selects the time series data of economic growth and carbon emissions years1978-2010in Liaoning Province and focuses on analysising of carbon emissions from the aspects of economic growth. First of all, this paper illustrates the research background and significance of the problem, reviewes the research status quo of the subject through the literature review at home and abroad, and list the relevant theoretical basis of the study on the relationship between the economic growth and carbon emissions. Then, this paper introduces the status quo of energy consumption, economic growth and carbon emissions in Liaoning Province. Further, it analyzes the relationship between carbon emissions and economic growth by using the cointegration test and granger causality test, and makes an analysis of the corresponding results. Finally, according to the empirical research results, this paper puts forward the corresponding feasible policy suggestions from six aspects about economic growth and carbon emission reduction in Liaoning ProvinceBased on theoretical and empirical analysis on the time-series data of economic growth and carbon emissions, Cointegration test and Granger causality test results show that the economic growth and carbon emissions of Liaoning Province is long-term equilibrium relationship, but only unidirectional causal relations.Carbon emissions are not granger cause of economic growth, but economic growth is granger cause of carbon emissions.We can control carbon emissions through the control of economic growth. But on the other hand, it doesn’t work to change the economic growth by adjusting the carbon emissions.
