Due to the impact of the natural environment, policy, market, technology and other factors,Farmers in different regions will adjust their planting behavior when pursue the maximization profit.Farmers are the micro unit of agricultural production. They are engaged in agricultural activitiesrespectively, so farmers’ planting behavior has an impact on the regional food supply and food securityinevitably. Based on the256households common beans survey data from Kelan County, ShanxiProvince and the analysis of the farmer’s production costs and benefits, we use the Tobit model andLogistic model to analyze the factor that affects farmers’ planting behavior, and then put forward policyadvices about planting common bean which can increase farmers’ incomes and promote sounddevelopment of common beans industry. The Study has the following conclusions:1. Common beans industry is a pillar industry in Kelan County. It was introduced in1992andplanted on a large scale in later20years. Undoubtedly, households have achieved good economicbenefits, but also highlighted some issues which have blocked the development of common beanindustry in recent years. For example, a slow introduction of new varieties of common beans, a lowerlevel of technical training services provided by government, a lower farmers’ level of organization, alimited distribution channel of common beans, a serious imbalance between foreign market anddomestic market and other issues, which are seriously blocking households’ planting initiative and thesustainable development of common beans industry.2. The statistical data of256households has showed:74.90%of households grew common beans,25.10%of households didn’t. Households should take into consideration the factors such as arable land, planting costs, labor, marketing price and the proportion of non-farm income.3. The variable average education years of household, planting area of each household totally, prices of common fertilizers, average sales price of potatoes and whether participate in Farmers’professional cooperatives respectively has a significant effect on common bean planting behavior, ofwhich the variable average education years of household, planting area of each household totally andwhether participating in Farmers’ professional cooperatives has positive impact on common beanplanting behavior and the variable prices of Common fertilizers and the variable named average salesprice of potatoes has negative impact on common bean planting behavior respectively. The variableaverage sales price of corn, price of common bean, age of household head, labor force of household, whether the head of household born in the village, older number of household, the percentage ofnon-agricultural income to total income, whether the head of household has participated technicaltraining, self-evaluation on family’s economic situation, whether living in the cave has no significanteffect on common bean planting behavior.4. The variable the area of each plot has a significant positive effect on common bean plantingbehavior. The variable percentage of slope land has a significant negative effect on common beanplanting behavior.
