Tang and Song Dynasties are the prosperous periods in the Chinese history. As thecapital of the Tang and Song Dynasties, Chang’an and Kaifeng had become the economicand cultural center of the whole country and the world. The degree of development ofcapital represents the level of development of society at that time. The development ofinternal road transportation of the capital, which promotes the circulation of goods andcapital internal cultural exchange. In this thesis, the capital of Tang and Song Dynasties’road transportation as the research subject, which introduces the road construction of thecapital and analysis the transportation tools and discusses the road transportationmanagement.This thesis is divided into three parts:The first part introduces the internal construction of the capital roads. This sectionfirst discusses that the capital layout evolution influences on road construction. Thecapital of Tang Dynasty, the Palace layout the north of the capital. The internal roads ofcapital were due to north and east-west. The road of Beisong Dynasty capital, on thebasis of distribution in Kaifeng three cities’ capital, which formed the road network thatcrosses four inter city gate extension to the outside. Secondly, it discusses the evolutionof square city system and city streets, in Chang’an city of Tang Dynasty closed workshopsystem, layout of regular city streets. In Kaifeng opened market system, combined withbusiness capital Street set inside, formed a network of roads open. Finally, it discussesthe capital planning and waterway transportation construction.The second part, the internal transportation tools of the capital. This part discussesthe internal road transportation tools and waterway transportation tools in the capital ofTang and Song Dynasties. Firstly, the rules of the Imperial Guard transportation tools inTang and Song Dynasties. Later, it writes the transportation tools in the daily life. Lastly,it main writes the use of the waterway transportation tools of Kaifeng.The third part, the internal transportation managements of the capital. In the capitalof Tang and Song Dynasties, the developed transportation needs strictly managements toensure the unimpeded access the roads. This part mainly discusses the road trafficmanagements, which include the square city system and opened market system and waterway transportation. Under the square city system, it informs the management of thecity gate and the main street. Under the opened market system, it also informs themanagement of the city gate and the main street. The management of the waterwaytransportation mainly writes waterway transportation line.Based on the above mentioned problems and discussed, we can see, from TangDynastiy to Song Dynastiy the capital road construction is gradually broked, through therestrictions to the freedom and flexibility, the road transportation managements becomerelaxation.
