Preliminary Study On Structure And Characteristic Of Meretrix Meretrix Industry In Nantong, Jiangsu

The formation and development of shellfish industry derives from the growingmarket demand, but the market cannot ensure the running of the industry in the bestway around the clock. Thus, only by respecting the laws of the market and imposingappropriate forward-looking control measures to the industry, can we ensure it couldbe sustained and healthy. We would not establish an effective control policies if wecannot understand the shellfish industry in a comprehensive and rational way andpredict the future development trend of the industry. Therefore, study the structural ofthe shellfish industry to seize its essential character, and to make predictions on itsdevelopment trend, has a very important practical significance.The scope covered by the shellfish industry is too broad, of course, too manyvarieties also involved. Thus, a thorough study on it, which destined to be anambitious project, is by no means cannot be done once or even several times.Therefore, it could be the foundation of the shellfish industry in China through thestudy on a specific variety of industries from the local area. For that reason, this paperselect the Meretrix meretrix industry in Nantong which occupies an important positionin Nantong Marine Fisheries and the Meretrix meretrix Industry in China.Based on the method of field investigation and literature survey to collect data,using the research methods of the combination of normative analysis and empiricalanalysis, and the combination of comprehensive analysis and comparative analysis,this paper try to study the structure and features of Meretrix meretrix industry inNantong from the industry and the enterprise level. The former refers to the history,overall structure, industry associations, social and economic impact, the externalenvironment and internal resources, while the latter refers to the development, internalorganization, the scale of production, product, target market, cost structure andcost-benefit situation of the typical enterprise. On this basis, this paper could sum upthe opportunities and threats and strengths and weaknesses of the industry, then try to put forward the regulation and control measures by SWOT analysis.Through the study on the structure of the Meretrix meretrix industry in Nantong,the features could be preliminary summarized as follows. Industrial chain, includingbreeding, aquaculture, processing, sales and recreational fishery. The scale ofaquaculture enterprises is relative to the average, did not show a dominant situation.In terms of ownership structure, the collective ownership form only exists in someaquaculture enterprises in Rudong, but it occupies a larger proportion of the Meretrixmeretrix industry in Nantong. In terms of the number of the enterprises, aquacultureenterprises most, followed by wholesale enterprises, processing enterprises at least. Interms of employment, employees in harvesting most, followed by aquaculture,processing part of at least; In terms of production costs, labor costs share the largestproportion foe the aquaculture enterprises, however, the raw material costs accountfor the largest proportion for the processing enterprises; in terms of products, freshproducts dominate, while processed products always keep a rising trend although it isless; in terms of export products, processed products account for a growing proportion,while domestic consumers only consume fresh products. The effect of industryassociation is still relatively limited. The development of the industry faces manychallenges as follows. The scale of aquaculture is shrinking. The mass death ofMeretrix meretrix is frequent. Labor costs rise sharply and the prices of productscontinue to slump. Market competition is intense.Since grasped industrial structure and features of the Meretrix meretrix industry,this paper try to put forward Suggestions from four aspects based on the SWOTanalysis: SO strategy includes the development of processed products and culture;WO strategy includes the implementation of the measures of restricting output, themechanized production, and the strengthening of scientific research; ST strategyincludes the protection of tidal flats tidal flats, tie-in sale and broaden the saleschannels; WT strategy includes pollution prevention, improvement of tidal flats, theestablishment of the risk warning mechanism as well as the construction of industry association.
