In the1970s, South Korea lunched the New Village Movement, which has madeKorea change dramatically, especially the great achievements urbanization. The paperdescribes the background and reasons of the New Village Movement in South Koreaand the measures taken in the movement including promoting the development ofagriculture, promoting the development of rural industrialization, optimizing theurban self-construction, paying attention to the protection of the ecologicalenvironment, cultivating the national spirit of the peasants, enlightening the peasants,improving the peasants’ethics level etc.At the same time, as a country-level city of Qingdao, Laixi has made greatdevelopment in economy recently. However, compared with other developed cities,there is still some gap and the level of the urban construction is rather low. Therefore,when we obey the12thfive-year-plan, it is necessary to draw lessons from thosecountries and areas that have made great achievements in urbanization, while SouthKoran model can provide an important method to promote the urbanization in Laixi.Guided by Marxist dialectical materialism and combined theory with practice,the paper adopts the methods of field interview, documents analysis, questionnaires,comparative analysis and so forth. Through studying the state quo of the developmentof urbanization in Laixi and the existing problems, comparing and analyzing thedifferences of the towns and streets in Laixi and then comparing them with theKorean New Village Movement, it can be concluded that it is feasible for Laixi to drawexperience from the Republic of Korea to promote its urbanization. Stones from otherhills may serve to polish the jade of this one. Through comprehensive comparison andanalysis, it can be found that it is meaningful for Korean New Village Movement toprovide lessons to the urbanization in Laixi. Moreover, from the reality of itsurbanization development, Laixi can get some practical insights.
