A Comparative Study Of Pingyao Ancient City And Hwaseong Tourism Resources Development Model

Due to the unique nature and human landscape, World Cultural Heritage playsan unreplacable role from the perspective of human spirit and cultural inheritence.The contradiction between tourism exploration and protest of World CulturalHeritage is the core problem in realizing sustainable development of ChineseWorld Cultural Heritage site. In recent years, exploring tourism of World CulturalHeritage has become a topic which both China and South Korea are focusing on.The Ancient City of Pingyao in China and Suwon Hwaseong in South Korea arehistorical remains in fedual society and were regarded as ‘World Cultural HeritageSite’ by UNESCO in December in1997. From then on, toursim of those twoancient cities got a rising prosperity, especially Pingyao, whose toursim developedrapidly and even for some times millions of people came to Pingyao for tourism. Atthe time when we see Pingyao’s great economic benefits, the disorganization ofthe tourism market in Pingyao gradually make people found existing numerousproblems in it, such as unique tourism products, less entertainment activities, moredissatisfaction reflected by tourists and so on, all of which could reflect theunreasonable ways of exploring Pingyao.Some scholars at home also realize the specific exsiting problems in the toursim development in Pingyao, and have begun some researches towards them.Whereas comparative thesis on tourism resources of the same kind haven’t beenpublished yet. This paper might help to fill in the blank and give more informationabout the comparation. Though Suwon Hwaseong has a smaller scale thanPingyao, it attracts people through holding many kinds of activities for experiencein order to let every tourist could feel the cultural sense and charm of the WorldCultural Heritage rather than only focusing on welcoming large scales of peoplelike Pingyao, which make the coexistence of toursim exploration and protest cometure.Thus, in this thesis, the Ancient City of Pingyao and Suwon Hwaseong are theobjects to be compared according to our national standard of classification intoursim resources in three ways, that is, remains and construction, tourismproducts and human activities. The author tries to find out problems anddisadvantages of the development of Pingyao and improve every step indeveloping Pingyao from the experience of success of Suwon Hwaseong, eager toplay some promoting roles in the sustainable development of the Ancient City ofPingyao.
