The activities related tourism in Buddhism sites are commercialized andvulgarized seriously recently. This paper analyses the reason for thephenomenon from a perspective of tourists. There are many research resultson the issue of tourist perceived value. Through the analysis of these results,this paper identifies a single commercial perspective and some deficiencies inconcept definition, research paradigms and methods. This paper referencesparadigm of Interpretive Sociology and Phenomenology, method of Interviewand Questionnaire, researching the activities seemingly related Buddhism andthe values that are perceived by tourists who take part in those activities, andthen classifies the perceived values into different levels according to specifictheories.This paper gets the results that the activities seemingly related Buddhism inwhich tourist take part are visiting, burning incense to Buddha, fortune-telling, praying and drawing divination sticks, experiencing the BuddhistFestivals, communicating with the Buddha and confessing, consulting eminentmonks, buying instruments, getting names and so on, and the values touristsperceived are blessing, caring one’s fortune, comforting, releasing one’s soulsand solacing his relatives, self-cultivating, scientific, cultural and ecologicaland so on. Then classifies these perceived values according to the Internal andExternal Religion orientation, Maslow’s Psychology of Religion and MaxWeber’s Rationality theory into three levels, they are Internal ValueRationality, External Implement Rationality and Deuterogenic Value. Thispaper finally identifies that the tourists have a higher perception of InternalValue Rationality and Deuterogenic Value, it describes that people have ahigher awareness of the values of Buddhism in history, culture, ecology, andlife philosophy. And these tourists have an ambivalent attitude towardsExternal Implement Rationality, it reflects that people have a complicatedmind-set between sense and delusion. So they will take part in some activities such as burning incense to Buddha, fortune-telling, praying and drawingdivination sticks and so on. Then this paper considers that there is an affinitybetween the immethodical phenomena in Buddhism sites and the actualityandcharacteristics of tourist perceived value.
