A Study On Influential Factors Of Vegetable Price Fluctuation In Baiyin City

Vegetables is one of the important crops in China, as well as residents essential non-staple food on table in daily life. The vegetable industry plays a vital role in the development of Chinese agriculture and national economy as a whole. It is not only an important source of increasing farmers’income, but also makes an important contribution on improving the dietary structure and rising nutrition levels. Since the "Vegetable Basket Project" were implemented, vegetable industry was regionalized、large-scaled、industry directed rapidly in Gansu Province. It was helpful to optimize industrial structure of agriculture, increase farmers’income, expand employment, increase foreign exchange earnings. Baiyin City was driven by policy, project, market demonstration and other measures, focusing on the development of pollution-free vegetable production. However, vegetable prices have been fluctuated frequently and intensely since the year of2011. The ups and downs of vegetables price will not only increase farmers’operational risks, and dampen their enthusiasm for production, but also affect the macro-economic policies and the residents’ living consumption. Therefore, it is necessary to explore its fluctuation rule and influential factors. It is of great significance for improving farmers’ income、increasing consumer’ welfare, and promoting the further development of the vegetable industry.In this paper, selecting the factors which affected the market price of vegetable products as the object of research, taking Baiyin City as the study area, taking related theory as the instruction, such as the equilibrium price theory、the cobweb theory and the farmers’ production behavior theory, using a combination of literature review and field research methods for a in-depth analysis. Firstly, making a introduction about vegetable industry situation in Baiyin City. Based on the development environment, make a descriptive statistical analysis on the characteristics of the seasonal fluctuations of the prices of vegetables and extraordinary fluctuations. Secondly, establishing the index system about influential factors of vegetable price fluctuation in Baiyin City. Through the multiple regression model finish this empirical research. Finally, presenting of the deficiencies for this study,looking ahead the direction of future research prospects.Combining of vegetable industry development status and empirical results, proposed maneuverability countermeasures and suggestions to alleviate vegetables price fluctuation, so as to provide a good theoretical guidance for healthy development of vegetable industry in Baiyin city.The results showed that:①By the long term, vegetables prices showed a rising trend. Overall, vegetables prices which showed a marked seasonal fluctuation in the annual belongs to the normal fluctuations. However, individual special vegetable prices in the period of the sudden increase or decrease belongs to the extraordinary fluctuation.②The empirical analysis shows that vegetable prices mainly by the production of vegetables, prices of agricultural means of production, the inundated area of urban residents per capita disposable income, consumer price index and other factors.③Measures to stabilize the price of vegetables including improving the income levels and protecting the vegetables steady growth in demand; Controlling production costs effectively, ensuring the steady growth of farmers income; Strengthening the early warning of natural disasters and reducing the impact of emergencies on the prices of vegetables; playing the role of the professional cooperative organizations and improving the scale of vegetable cultivation; Building standardized vegetable pricing system and price subsidy mechanism to protect the stability of fluctuations in the prices of vegetables.
