Recently, with the rapid development of network, e-commerce has graduallyupended the traditional business models and opened up a new information world topeople all over the world in the21st century. Since2001, E-commerce English coursehas been established in more and more vocational colleges in China with the purposeof improving students’ compound professional skills of E-commerce affaires on thebasis of fluent English. So the teaching of E-commerce English has become the focus.However, some problems in this field need to be considered and researched, such as,whether the classroom instruction is carried out on the basis of students’ learningneeds, whether the teaching effect could achieve the intended purpose andrequirements of syllabus and so on.As one of the important branches of ESP, E-commerce English course should becarried out on the basis of efficient needs analysis. Therefore, this research, whichtook the models for needs analysis of Dudley-Evans and St. John from the perspectiveof Xi’an high-tech college students, was designed to investigate students’ learningneeds and motivations of E-commerce English learning and to find out whether theteaching effect could meet students’ needs.The results showed that most students realized the importance of E-commerceEnglish course in their future work. Although the E-commerce English teaching inthis college had a certain effect, there were still some problems in teachers, teachingmethods, teaching aids and the evaluation methods. And some suggestions were putforward accordingly.Hope this research can help teachers to improve the E-commerce Englishteaching in this school and also provide references to other schools.
