Energy-important material base of human survival and production, constantly change andreplacement of energy is an important symbol of human society development. Energy is thesource of social economic development, both in agriculture and industrial production, andeven the improvement of people’s living standards are directly or indirectly, and the energyconsumption is closely linked together. Economic growth depends in part on energyconsumption, energy consumption will also be able to reflect the level of economicdevelopment. So, it becomes necessary to study relationship between energy consumption andeconomic growth.Gansu is energy production and consumption in China, the research on relationship betweenenergy consumption and economic growth in Gansu province for the government to formulatereasonable has great significance to the policy and strategic objectives. This paper mainlystudies the following contents:First of all, describes the basic economic and energy economics related theory, according tostatistics, a preliminary calculation of the Gansu province energy consumption elasticitycoefficient and energy consumption intensity. Concluded that Gansu province energyconsumption elasticity coefficient of volatile, no show certain regularity; Energy consumptionintensity presents a decrease trend as a whole.Secondly, based on the statistical data from1985to2009in Gansu province, by adopting thecombination of theory and empirical analysis on the relationship between energy consumptionand economic growth in Gansu province were analyzed. Through the cointegration test andvector error correction model analyzes the Gansu province in energy consumption, capitalstock, labor and economic growth, the relationship between the research results show that thelong-term equilibrium relationship between them, there is bidirectional causality betweenenergy consumption and economic growth, energy consumption and economic growth inGansu province there is significant positive correlation between. And according to theresearch results in combination with Gansu province feeling gives the corresponding policyrecommendations.Then, in order to solve the energy shortage situation in the province, and Gansu province,with the development of new energy advantageous conditions, in order to make full use of this advantage, and puts forward Suggestions for the reasonable development and utilizationof new energy; And points out that the development and utilization of new energy in Gansuprovince may face the problem and resolve measures.
