In recent years, with the rapid development of China’s economy, the issue of carbonemissions has gradually become the focus of attention. The fluctuation of energy price is oneof the fundamental elements that influence the carbon emissions. The energy prices hasaffected the carbon emission directly and vicariously. Although there is a lot of researchprogress on fluctuation of energy price and carbon research, the correlation of the two factorsis yet to be elucidated. For such a nation of carbon supplier and consumer as China, it is veryimportant and urgent to do some research on the correlation between coal prices and carbonemissions to regulate the carbon emission manners of relevant enterprise and minimize thecarbon emissions. In this paper, on the basis of reviewing the research status quo at home and abroad, takethe power industry as an example, used econometric and non-linear regression method, andtook China’s coal prices and carbon emissions data for the sample of technological progress asthe intermediate variables, had a thorough research on the relationship between China’s coalprices and carbon emissions, the main results are as follows:(1)In this paper, the Solow Residual Method was used to calculate the technologicalprogress of China’s electric power industry, found that the the past20years, China’s powerindustry growth at an average rate of8.28%, the fastest growth in2010, reaching8.8%.(2)Nonlinear method was used to build coal prices, technological progress, and carbonemissions quadratic relationship model, the main results are as follows:①Coal prices and technological progress were U-shaped relationship. When the coalprices was lower than148.41yuan,the speed of technological progress declined while the coalprices rised. While the coal prices was higher than148.41yuan,the speed of technologicalprogress also rises with the coal prices rise.②Technological advances and carbon emissions was an inverted U-shaped curve. Whentechnological progress ratio was lower than1, carbon emissions increased while the technological progress ratio rised; while technological progress ratio was higher than1,carbon emissionsdeclined with the technological progress ratio rised.③The coal prices and the carbon emissions Volume Movement inverted U-shaped curve, when the coal price was lower than148.41yuan,the carbon emissions rised with thecoalprice’s rise; while the coal price was higher than148.41yuan,the carbon emissions declinedwith the coal price’s rise.(3)Use Granger Causality Test method to test the relationship of coal prices, technological progress and the carbon emissions, the conclusions is: coal prices andtechnological progress is the Granger cause of carbon emissions and the price of coal andtechnological progress Granger Causality to each other.
