Study On Differentiation Mechanism Of Urban Living Space

With the accelerated process of industrialization and the expansion of city size in ourcountry, the phenomenon of urban residential space differentiation has become moreand more evident. Research on the topic of urban residential differentiation is full ofmeanings in multiple levels. It not only contributes to finding out underlying causes ofsocial class differentiation by analyzing the phenomenon of urban residentialsegregation, but also helps to assess the level of harmonious degree between areas ofone city and economic development in different cities with the method of grasping theresidential differentiation patterns of different cities. Besides, it does good to providingfeasible policy recommendations for the balanced development of urban living space byanalyzing the motives and mechanism of the urban residential space differentiation.Therefore, study on urban residential differentiation, especially for the grasp of sensitivefactors affecting the formation of urban residential differentiation, has importanttheoretical and practical significance on deepening our awareness of urban residentialdifferentiation and its social implications, promoting exchanges and integration betweendifferent social classes, and even accelerating the process of urbanization, building aharmonious society full of fair and impartiality.First, based on mastering current research on urban residential differentiation afterreading a lot of literature, I make use of gaps in research on relevant aspects of theurban residential differentiation to determine the direction and research ideas of thisstudy. Second, I arrange concepts related to spatial differentiation of urban living space,patterns of urban residential differentiation and influence factors of urban residentialdifferentiation, in order to obtain a theoretical basis. Third, Based on the theoreticalanalysis, I construct indicator system required for the model of urban residentialdifferentiation patterns by choosing index which can represent the spatial heterogeneityof urban living, and establish another indicator system required for model of urbanresidential differentiation factors by selecting indicators based on the former theoreticalanalysis, and elaborate applicability and limitations of discrete choice model to thestudy of urban residential differentiation. Finally, taking Harbin as an example, Iconduct empirical analysis on the differentiation mechanism of urban residential space.Harbin’s residential space is divided into four modes, which are New DevelopmentLayer, Core Area Layer, Old Town Layer and Edge Layer through the cluster analysis.Then, taking the residents subjective choice of residence as the breaking point, I doresearch on differentiation mechanism of Harbin’s residential space through the discretechoice model, and get the function mechanism of Housing Conditions Factor, District and Surrounding Environmental Factor, Family Economic Level Factor, Social StatusFactor, Accessibility Factor and Market Factor to Harbin’s residential differentiation.According to Harbin’s current living space, I give some policy recommendations inorder to promote the harmonious development of Harbin’s living space.
