Since the reform and opening up, the economic growth of five ethnic autonomousregions has made remarkable achievements. Research has shown that the economicgrowth rate of China’s central and western areas, especially for the ethnic autonomousregions, has grown much more rapidly than that of the eastern regions. Then, howmuch difference there is between the economic growth of the ethnic autonomousregions and the economic growth of developed areas? What role did physical capitalinvestment, human capital investment and total factor productivity respectively do inpromoting the economic growth of the ethnic autonomous regions? Has the economicgrowth mode of the ethnic autonomous regions been shifted? How can we promote theethnic autonomous regions’ economic growth mode to a cost-effective and stable one? These are all problems to be solved and worthy of study. The study will bring lots ofhelp in promoting the economic growth in ethnic autonomous regions. This article compiled macroeconomics theory of economic growth systematically.Based on which, we selected production function model, Lucas human capital modeland total factor productivity theory, to study the economic growth of five ethnicautonomous regions, with the use of econometrics and statistical methods in empiricalanalysis. Using horizontal contrast work with the economic developed cities, as well aslongitudinal comparison work, the article analyzed the five ethnic autonomous regions’economic growth trends and changes in each input factors. This article also analyzedthe contribution each element made in the economic growth and the economic growthmode of the ethnic autonomous regions’ economic growth. Base on the research, wefinally made some recommendations to the future economic development of the ethnicautonomous regions according to the related economic growth theory.Through research, we found:①In recent years, both the physical capitalaccumulation rate and the economic growth rate of ethnic autonomous regions werehigh. Between2001and2010, five ethnic autonomous regions’ average growth rate ofthe physical capital accumulation was in excess of the national average rate. Between1978and2010, the average economic growth rate of the five ethnic autonomousregions was higher than the national average rate.②The ethnic autonomous regions’economic growth mainly relied on the accumulation of physical capital stock, but thephysical capital’s effect in promoting economic growth declined in recent years.③The quality of the labor force in ethnic autonomous regions gradually improved, the role of the quality of the labor force in improving economic growth has becomeincreasingly significant.④The ethnic autonomous regions’ technical level was nothigh, the economic growth mainly relied on the inputs. In view of the analysis above, this article suggested:①Optimize the investmentstructure of the ethnic autonomous regions, focus on the efficient use of physicalcapital.②Consolidate the basic education and strengthen vocational education to makegood use of the human capital in ethnic autonomous regions.③Improve ethnicautonomous regions’ science and technology capability of independent innovation.Positively change the mode of economic growth in ethnic autonomous regions toachieve sustainable economic and social development.
