The information industry is a sunrise industry in the21st century, and becomes a leading industry in economically developed countries, and procures the economic development from labor-intensive industries to knowledge-intensive industries. The paper gives depth analysis of the characteristics of the information industry and its contribution to the national economy, and researches the contribution China’s information industry making to economic growth empirically.First, the paper defines the concept and the range of information industry, and thinks that information industry has features like knowledge and intelligence-intensive, high value-added, wide-demand, strong penetration, as well as high-driven, which are the cores of the contribution of information industry making to the economic growth. Based on the above research, the contribution of information industry making to national economic growth is divided into direct and indirect contribution. At first, as part of the economic activity, the expansion of the scale of information industry shows it’s directly contribution to the economy Furthermore, the information industry is high-driven industry with strong permeability, so it can indirectly promote economic development by widely penetrating in various social sectors.Then, This article analyzes direct contribution, indirect contribution and it’s lagged effect information industry making to China’s economic growth empirically on the basis of improved feder model, and draws the following conclusions:Information industry has significant direct effect on economic growth in China and is becoming a new economic growth point; The indirect effect of information industry on economic growth is significantly positive, but it’s lagged effect is not significant.
