With the development of information and communication technology, more and more information resources are available via high-speed broadband networks to spread. As the economy moves towards the knowledge-intensive and information-rich, the creation, collection, management, processing, storage, distribution and access of the information resources also gradually spread to a wide range of industries, which contributes to further innovation, growth and employment. Information resources has become the center of research, medicine, education, social services, knowledge, cultural services and government regulation, which also stimulates more and more users to participate and create new information sources. The resulting Information Resource Industry (IRI) has been becoming a strategic industry in many developed countries. Therefore, the study of IRI is great significant to the development of the entire national economy. The research thinking of this thesis is study the influence of IRI on economic growth from three levels:the direct impact of IRI on GDP growth, the impact of IRI on other industries and the impact of Total Factor Productivity (TFP) on IRI.The main structure of thesis is organized as follows:Chapter I is introduction; Chapter Ⅱ reviews the theory and literature; Chapter III defines the base issues of IRI; Chapter IV studies the influence of IRI on economic growth; Using input-output analysis, Chapter V analyzes the promotion of IRI on the other industries; Chapter VI analyzes the impact of TFP on IRI; Finally, conclusions and related policy recommendations are made in chapter VII.First, we review the basic theory of economic growth, input-output analysis methods, total factor productivity (TFP) and some of the basic model involved. Through literature review, we found that the existing research about IRI focuses on the basic definition of the industrial concept and related policy. Related research on how IRI affect economic growth is scarce, similar research can be found on information and communication technology, information industry, cultural and creative industries and other areas, but there is no in-depth research and the relevant data is not accurate measure.Second, there is no unifonn and accurate definition of IRI in academic and industrial circle. In this thesis, we have an in-depth research on the definition and connotation of IRI, discriminate the boundaries of IRI and other industries. Based on the research of mainstream international classification system, this thesis gives the definition of IRI on the theoretical and statistical aspects, divides the IRI into "Information Resource Storage and Transmission Industry","Information Resource Development and Processing Industry", and "Information Resource Exchanges and Services Industry". What’s more, important data about the industrial added value, employment and investment in fixed assets of IRI has been accounted in this thesis.Third, by measuring the contribution rate and pulling rate, the direct and indirect contribution of IRI and its sub-industries on GDP is reported in this section. The results show that IRI has had a prototype of pillar industry of the national economy, but its promoting nad driving effect on GDP is still relatively limited.Proposing a empirical analysis of econometric models for analyzing the relationship between the added value of IRI and GDP, the added value of IRI and per capita GDP. The results show that the added value of IRI and GDP, GDP per capita have the long-term equilibrium relationship. IRI is an important factor in affecting economic growth.Information resource capital stock is added to the basic production function. Experiment results demonstrate that the information resource capital as material capital and human capital has lasting effects on economic growth. Per unit change of information resource capital stock will lead to0.1563units change of GDP. However, comparatively, the impact of information resource capital on economic growth are much smaller than material capital and human capital.Fourth, useing a mathematical model to study the influence mechanism of IRI on the other industries. This article find that IRI impact on the other industries by promoting innovation and technology diffusion, enhancing the quality of decision-making, reducing costs, and promoting demand.Using the input-output method to research the impact of IRI on the other industries. Using direct consumption coefficient, completely consumption coefficient, direct distribution coefficient, completely partition coefficient, intermediate input rate, and intermediate demand rate, we study the correlation effects between IRI and other industries. Experiment results demonstrate that IRI have a close relationship with other industries. Using influence coefficient, sensitivity coefficient, production-induced turnover, production-induced coefficient, and final demand dependence, we study the spread effect between IRI and other industries. The results show that the spread effect of China’s IRI on other industries should be strengthened.Fifth, using the Solow residual method, the TFP of China’s IRI and its sub-industry, and the contribution rate of TFP on IRI in1990-2010years has been accounted. The results show that the TFP of China’s IRI goes a gradual downward trend. TFP presents higher contribution rate on China’s IRI and its sub-industry, which shows that the development of China’s IRI and its sub-industry relies on technical efficiency and technological progress of TFP.Using DEA-Malmquist Productivity Index, the TFP changes and decomposition of China’s IRI and its sub-industry in2003-2010years are studied. The results show that the development of China’s IRI relies mainly on technological progress. For sub-industry, Information Resource Storage and Transmission Industry and Information Resource Exchanges and Services Industry rely on technological progress, Information Resource Development and Processing Industry is largely dependent on technical efficiency. In this way, with the significant increase in capital investment of China’s IRI, although the technological progress has been improved, the potential of existing resources and technologies have not been fully exploited. And the technological progress in processing industry need to be strengthened. Finally, we summarize the innovation and the main conclusions obtained in this thesis, propose the corresponding policy suggestion according to the study of the thesis, and discusse the future work.
