Manufacturing industry is the main body and material base of national economy, level of the ability of manufacturing decides the development level of one country, the position in the international division of labor system and the comprehensive national strength. China’s manufacturing industry has made remarkable achievements in the past30years of reform and opening-up, manufacturing scale grow rapidly and become a veritable "world’s factory". Most of the manufacturing industries have a larger development, the production of many products is No.l in the world, which has played a vital role on driving China’s economic growth. At the same time, the development of manufacturing industry also eased the employment pressure in China. The development of China’s manufacturing industry is not only an economic problem, but also a social problem, so the research and analysis on how to promote the international competitiveness of China’s manufacturing industry has important practical significance.On the basis of research of foreign and domestic scholars, this paper makes a relatively comprehensive and detailed analysis on the international competitiveness of China’s manufacturing industry by combining normative analysis and empirical analysis method. This paper is divided into six chapters:Chapter one makes a background analysis on the development and current situation of China’s manufacturing industry, expounds the significance of increasing its international competitiveness; summarizes the domestic and foreign scholars’literature review on this issue; presents this paper’s research idea, innovation points and deficiencies. Chapter two firstly determines a definition to manufacturing, and divides manufacturing industry into labor-intensive industries, capital-intensive industries and technology-intensive industries according to the intensity of elements, then by combining qualitative research and quantitative research methods, analyzes the status and problems existing in the process of China’s manufacturing industry’s development. Chapter three analyzes international competitiveness of China’s manufacturing industry through a series of indicators including productivity competition, trade competition, innovative research and development capabilities, which shows that traditional advantage industry of China’s manufacturing industry is given priority to labor-intensive industries, in general capital and technology intensive industry is still at a disadvantage position. Chapter four makes a relatively specific, comprehensive analysis and research on the cause of the weakening comparative advantage of Chinese manufacturing industry, points out serious challenge brought by changes at home and abroad, thereby indicates the necessity and urgency of China’s manufacturing industry to improve its international competitiveness. Chapter five:on the basis of above research, the author puts forward some effective countermeasures to improve international competitiveness and achieve sustainable development:Firstly, speed up the strategic adjustment of industrial structure, decrease the proportion of the energy intensive and highly polluting industries, close down backward production facilities, develop advanced manufacturing industries, with emphasis on the revitalization of equipment manufacturing industry, raise the proportion of high-technology industries; secondly, speed up the construction of industrial parks, improve the production concentration, use the advantage of industrial resources by industrial clustering and realizing large-scale; thirdly, increase the investment in research and development, enhance the capability of independent innovation, master the key technology and the core technology gradually, cultivate independent brands, while in pushing through new technologies we should pay more attention to the import original innovation; fourthly, develop green manufacturing, and develop green products and recycling economy actively to maximize resource utilization, minimize environmental pollution; fifthly, strengthen cooperation with ASEAN; sixthly, attach great importance to the human capital investment, on one hand, we should cultivate a large number of high-level innovative talents and high-skilled people, on the other hand, we should also cultivate entrepreneurs who are familiar with international and domestic markets with modern management knowledge and abilities, professional marketing talents and some high-level compound talents proficient in both technical and marketing and management experience.
