Nowadays, the era of knowledge economy has come. Economic globalization and regional economic integration become the two main trends of the economic development.The economic relations and interdependence among all countries have been further strengthened. Innovation is an important characteristic of the knowledge economy era and also the inexhaustible driving force for the prosperity of a country. With China’s accession to the WTO and integration into the tide of the world economy, the continuous innovation ability has become the internal demand of enterprise survival and development and the winning formula in the fierce competition.Large state-owned enterprises, as an important pillar of our national economy, are of great significance to China’s economic and social development. According to the2013China Top500List by Chinese version of Fortune Magazine published on July16,2013, top10listed companies are state-owned enterprises, and state-owned and state holding enterprises remain dominant, accounting for62%of the total, revenue81.94%, total assets91.26%, total profits85.91%, mainly concentrated in mining, banking, metal product, automobile, trade, engineering and construction and other fields. However, because of the system and mechanism, large state-owned enterprises face many problems and challenges in the development. Under the market economy environment, management innovation, as an important means of optimizing allocation and effectively integrating resources, has become the only way for China’s large state-owned enterprises striving for survival and development.This article takes W Mining Group as an example for the empirical analysis of management innovation. On the research idea, we adhere to the logical thinking of "ask question-theory building-case study-get conclusion", step by step, layer upon layer. On research methods, we persist in linking theory with practice. On the basis of analyzing the theoretical foundation of management innovation and research results at home and abroad, we comprehensively use the theories of SWOT analysis, performance management, strategic management, standard management and organization management to conduct an integrated analysis of the background, environment and concrete practice and optimization scheme of the management innovation of W Mining Group. On the research content, we insist on studying from macroscopic to microcosmic, from strength to weakness, from the concrete practice to countermeasures. We started from the macro situation faced by the W Mining Group, the mining development environment and its management conditions to analyze its management innovation practice and put forward the optimum proposal of management innovation.Through comprehensive analysis and research, this paper argues that W Mining Group, under the new situation of complex and changeable macroeconomic environment and the transformation and upgrading of the traditional industries, facing the opportunities and challenges home and abroad, must enhance the domestic resources acquisition ability, train the ability of overseas development and management, apply the value-type growth measures, and set up scientific capital management system to ensure the scientific research investment, promote the strategic transformation in financial investment field, and realize the strategic control of management innovation; strengthen the function and role. of headquarters, define the management boundary, improve the corporate governance structure, and straighten out the organizational structure of management innovation; set up the management mode of encouraging innovation, establish the management system of encouraging innovation, build the talent team of management innovation, and perfect the system and mechanism of encouraging innovation; furthermore, strengthen the cultural construction of management innovation and establish the evaluation standard of management innovation, to realize the management innovation and qualitative leap of enterprise development.As an epitome of large state-owned enterprise, the external situation, internal environment and concrete practice of management innovation faced by W Mining Group has a strong generality with other large state-owned enterprises. This article comprehensively uses the management innovation theory to put forward the optimized plans for its management innovation, which also have certain reference significance for other large state-owned enterprises. At present, there are a lot of researches about management innovation in the society, but comparatively fewer researches conducted by means of reflecting back the large state-owned enterprise management innovation paths through typical case analysis, which is also the original intention of this paper.
