It has been ten years since the implementation of the West Development Strategy. In terms of the problem that studies concerning the West Development Strategy tend to mainly focus on qualitative studies and few of them are quantitative studies, the thesis studies the impact that the West Development Strategy have on the economic development of Sichuan Province, by combining qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis, from the perspective of the investment of infrastructure. The thesis discusses relationship between infrastructure and economic development through qualitative analysis, and points out that infrastructural construction is the basis of economic and social development, and infrastructure, whether it is good or bad, will determine the quality of a region’s economic structure, and affect the level and speed of its economic development. The thesis uses the descriptive statistics approach to compare and analyze the economic development of Sichuan Province since the reform and opening policy was adopted. I analyze the equilibrium relationship between infrastructural investment and GDP of Sichuan Province by means of co-integration test and conclude that there is longstanding equilibrium relationship between infrastructural investment and GDP. I also test the causal relationship between them by adopting the Granger causality test. Finally, I make an analysis of the impact that the Development of the Western Regions have on the economic development of Sichuan Province and find that Development of Western Regions have an great effect on the regional GDP of Sichuan Province.
