With the reform of market-oriented interest rate going in depth and the capital marketsystem being continuously perfecting, the competition among the banks and thecompetition between banks and non-bank financial institutions are both strengthened. Theprofitability of commercial banks becomes weaker and weaker. The traditional profitpattern is facing great challenge. In order to get the new profit point, some commercialbanks begin to focus on the expansion of investment banking business, and pay moreattention on investment banking business. At the same time Chinese financial market isopening and foreign banks are coming into Chinese markers. Chinese commercial bankshave to choose the development of investment banking business. Although someachievements have been made, Chinese commercial bank’s investment banking business isstill in its early stage. They still face many problems to be solved. In order to develop theinvestment banking businesses, commercial banks need to learn not only the advancedexperience of foreign banks but also the development course of domestic typical banks,which will provide mature pattern for all commercial banks to develop investmentbanking business.According to the above research, this article is divided into five chapters. Firstly, itsummarizes the macro-economic background and strategic significance of commercialbanks’ developing investment banking business. It reviews the research status ofinvestment banking business at home and abroad, and introduces main research contents,research methods, and research technique route. Secondly, it concludes the definition ofcommercial banks and investment banks, and analyzes the difference and connectionbetween commercial banks and investment banks. It also introduces and analyzesinvestment bank business model at home and abroad. The main research describes thenecessity and feasibility for Chinese commercial banks to develop investment bankingbusiness, the status and questions of investment banking business of BOC. It also summerizes the pattern target, organization structure, operation mechanism, productsystem of investment banking business of BOC and gets a conclusion of the developmentpattern of investment banking business of BOC. Based on the above analysis of previouschapters, the thesis proposes the development pattern of Chinese commercial banks todevelop investment banking business, and the prospect of perfecting the research in thefuture.
