Research On The Relationship Between Port Logistics And Urban Economic Growth

With the development of global economy, reources and pruductions flow frequently, portlogistics plays an important role in transportation net. Domestic and international experienceshows that, for the coastal area economy development, port is the core resource of drivingregional economic development, as the core and important support of the port economy, portlogistics has become a bridge linking the development of port-port indurtry-port city.Therefore, the relevance of port logistics and urban economic growth has been the hot issuefor the past few years.The thesis takes the relevance of port logistics and urban economic growth as theresearch object. Firstly, the thesis describes the research background, purpose, significance,structure and methods. It reviews and summarizes the theory and empirical research about therelationship from two aspects of domestic and foreign. Secondly, in the part of theory analysis,the thesis reviews the development of port logistics, compares the difference betweentraditional and morden port logistics, defines and analyzes the connotation of modern portlogistics. It introduces the relevant theories of economic growth and the mutual mechanismpreliminarily. Thirdly, the thesis contacts the actual situation of Dalian, outlines thedevelopment of port logistics. It also makes timing analysis about the relationship betweenport logistics and economic growth by studying the data from1994to2010. Then, the thesisbulids VAR model by using multivariate. It analyses the dynamic relativity and causalitybetween port logistics and urban economy growth of Dalian by using Granger causality,impulse response function and variance decomposition. The results show that, there is stableequilibrium relevance between port logistics and urban economic growth of Dalian in longterm. The Granger test result reveals that port logistics is only the Granger causality of urbaneconomic growth, and there is a mutual causal relationship between port throughput andcontainer throughput. The variance contribution rate of port throughput to economy growthand container throughput is larger than the variance contribution rate of container throughputto the other two variables. Economy growth has low variance contribution rate to portlogistics. Finally, according to the analysis results and the actual situation of Dalian, the thesisputs forward related suggestions.
