With the trend of economic globalization is more and more obvious, trade protectionism is in vogue. There are many different kinds of ways of trade protectionism, and technical barriers to trade is now rising because of its concealment, variety, duplicity, indirectness and flexibility. In the face of such form, China, as a developing country should clearly recognize the situation, and strengthen its knowledge of TBT, in order to promote the development of international trade.This paper first organizes the research of predecessors, including the meanings, content, the relationship between TBT and international trade, the causes of origin of TBT, and also theoretical and empirical studies about TBT, and the conclusions the predecessors made. Secondly, this paper summarized the status of TBT China has encountered and the influence TBT has on China’s trade from the aspect of both quantity and structure. Then, this paper analyzes the duplicate influence TBT has on China’s trade in theoretical way, for example, General equilibrium theory analysis and the theory of the minimum quality standards. Then, this paper analyzes the influence TBT has on trade of developing countries from theoretical ways, including the long-term and short-term effect and the performance of the south and north divide of TBT. The next part is to provide empirical studies of TBT’s influence to trade of China. The main way is to prove the hypothesis originally made in this paper. The last part is to provide policies and suggestions with the combination of China’s status and fact.
