Six Sigma is a managerial concept. It is a disciplined data-driven approach and methodology for pursuing the customer satisfaction and striving for the near perfection. Six Sigma seeks optimal enterprise operation by improving, optimizing and controlling the processes based on statistical analysis on data and measurement.For any enterprise, variability in processes is the main adversary. Overmuch variability in processes may imperil the quality of products and services and, therefore, impair the customer satisfaction and bring the loss. Six Sigma program provides the enterprise with strategic methodology and pragmatic appliance as well. It augments the profits by eliminating defects in any process-from manufacturing to transactional and from product to service-with systematic rigorous data-based solution. Six Sigma is consisted of measurement and technology. Six Sigma has passionate and far-reaching implication on the enterprise, as long as it is implemented as a managerial system.The purpose of this essay is a research and discussion on the history, concept, organization and development of Six Sigma. Meanwhile, it also focuses on the relations of Six Sigma&QMS and of Six Sigma&TQM. Based on the analysis on the specific of the sewing machine manufacture and the problems met by domestic sewing machine producers, the essay indicates that restricted by poor innovation capability and unsteady product quality, which are the products of the low management level, the annual output of China, though, accounts for the70%of the total world output, the products are yet hardly accepted by the high-end market and, therefore, give negative implication on the long-term development of the enterprises.The essay cites S Company as an example, illustrating the concept and methodology of Six Sigma in practice. DMAIC has been adopted in S Company Case. Define the problems in the actual production. Verify the measuring system based on analysis of statistical data. Analyze the existing level of the products based on the data collected on schedule. Detect the defects in the process and work out a solution. Verify the feasibility through a pilot implementation on a small scale. Save the conclusion for long-term improvement in future. DOE test is designed to rectify the existed defects found in solution.The essay elaborates the necessity and feasibility of Chinese sewing machine producers introduce Six Sigma into their enterprises. Backed by the S Company Case, it notes a certain items that should be give more attention to during the process of the Six Sigma introduction and implementation in practice. Also, the essay gives some reasonable suggestions, which are beneficial for Chinese sewing machine producers to take the Six Sigma system.
