Energy is an important resource for economic development. Along with China ’s rapid economic growth, rising living standards and the extensive mode of economic growth, economic growth, energy shortage and environmental pollution has become increasingly prominent. Therefore, the problem that how to use less energy to chieve greater output has increasingly become the focus of attention. Thus, based on the research results of the domestic and foreign scholars, I make an empirical analysis on the factors that impact China’s energy intensity changes by using of relevant data from1980to2011.Considering two price transmission mechanism, I created a dynamic factor demand model. Then I calculate the elasticity of demand for energy. From a static point, I studied the impact of the variable input prices, exogenous and induced technological progress and capital accumulation on sector energy intensity. The empirical results show that:(1) Energy prices. The impact of energy prices energy intensity in the short-term is small amd long-term largger; Material prices. The prices of materials is energy using.(2) Technical progress. On the whole, autonomous technological progress will not bring energy savings, it will increase the demand for energy; Price induced technical progress. Price-induced technical progress will lead to smaller energy saving.; Embodied technical progress. Technical progress in the construction of capital also has little effect on energy intensity, or even negligible.(3) quasi-fixed inputs. Capital equipment has the effect of energy use for all sectors. Construction of capital for agriculture and transportation reduces energy demand, but the impact is small. Then I analysis the various factors impact on the overall energy intensity by using decomposition analysis method. Through establishing decomposition analysis model, I decomposite changes in the overall energy intensity to changes in industrial structure and changes in energy efficiency within the department. The results of decomposition analysis show that:changes in China’s overall energy intensity mainly come from a decline in energy intensity within the department. Structural adjustment on the overall impact of changes in energy intensity plays two-way role. From1980to1996, Structural adjustment improves the overall energy intensity; From1997to2011, Structural adjustment reduces the overall energy intensity.Further analysis shows that:Energy efficiency within the department mainly come from the rise in material prices; The impact of Autonomous technological progress will be less energy saving. While the price-induced technical progress will increase energy intensity; Embodied technological progress has little impact on energy intensity, or even negligible. In the long run, Capital of equipment Reduces the energy intensity, while capital of construction makes the energy intensity increased. There are two main innovation of this paper:(1) By using dynamic and static methods, I create a dynamic factor demand model at first; And then I analysis the effects of changes in energy intensity at the industry level by using the static method of elastic analysis.(2) From micro to macro, I analysis the effects of changes in energy intensity at the industry level and then turn to the overall dimensions by using decompositon analysis method.
