With the coming of the knowledge economy era, the source of core competence the enterprise maintains has gradually turned to the handling and utilizing of knowledge and advanced science and technology. At the same time, under the background of economic globalization, the international joint venture enterprises (IJV) have also become one of the most regularly used and the most important means that nowadays transnational corporations may adopt in the fierce competition. As an important channel that multinational corporations apply for foreign direct investments, the reason of the existence of the international joint ventures is to make full use of overseas market to develop, use and transfer the knowledge effectively, so as to keep the durable competitive advantage in the fierce market competition. Thus, the scholars at home and abroad have conducted on research of knowledge transfer from different angles in recent years. And China--as a party to the joint venture, Sino-foreign joint ventures have also increasingly become the focal point of the research, so, this article also seems Sino-foreign joint ventures as the object of this research. However, making the general survey of the perspective of the previous research on knowledge transfer, the author realizes that research from the perspectives of the organizational routines to analyze the knowledge transfer’s research also are deficient.Based on the limitations in present studies, this paper analyses the knowledge transfer of the Sino-foreign joint ventures on the perspective of organizational routines. Through the reviewing of literatures, this article proposes the three dimensions of the division of organizational routines firstly, and then dividing the process of knowledge transfer as four stages. According to the organizational network theory, the theory of Organizational Ecology and the organizational learning theory, this paper constructs the conceptual model and puts forward the relevant research hypotheses. At last, according to danone-wahaha, Guangzhou Honda and Philips and Neusoft Medical Systems Co., Ltd--three cases to verify the hypotheses proposed above. The main conclusion is that the similarity of the organization routines plays a positive role in the knowledge transfer of the Sino-foreign joint ventures; the similarity or compatibility of the cognitive routines, contextual routines, and behavior routines are positively associated with the knowledge transfer of the Sino-foreign joint ventures.The conclusion of this paper has made up the shortage of present researches to some extent, on the relationship between organizational routines and tacit knowledge transfer, and to further lay the foundation of constructing the theory of promoting tacit knowledge transfer effectively in Sino-foreign joint ventures.
