With the progress of global strategy, multinational business is facing more and more cultural differences, conflicts and unfamiliar cultural environment in the 20th century. The science of multinational management has turned into "Cross-cultural Management" which is a new field, and also the inevitable trend of human management of the 20th century, which is the practical issue of numerous Sino-foreign joint ventures.Facing the puzzledom of cross-cultural conflicts in management, this thesis will explore the cultural differences, conflicts and patterns of cross-cultural management in Sino-foreign joint ventures from the perspective of coalescent of macro and micro to provide some references for Sino-foreign joint ventures and those Chinese enterprises operating overseas.There are six chapters in this thesis. The first chapter refers to the general discription of sources, intention, significance and status quo both in China and abroad. The next chapter is to expound basic theories about cultural conflicts of Sino-foreign joint ventures and give a basic definition about transitional operation, cross-culture and conflict management according to the requirement of this thesis, which provides a macro comment on the basis of analysing the cultural conflict theory in existence. The third chapter intends to exoatiate on the course of development of Sino-foreign joint ventures and its status quo, as well as the cultural puzzledom in China, and gives an elementary conclusion about the types of cultural conflicts in Sino-foreign joint ventures from the aspects of system, personnel and values. On the basis of analysing the cultrul characteristics and patterns of management between China and the West, Chapter four brings forward, in the process of dealing with the cultural conflicts, six aspects that need to be noticed, which are the attitudes, comprehension, tactics of management to treat conflicts, the face view in conflict managemen t, the rhythm of conflict management and the criterion of treating conflicts, as well as six hypotheses on the basis of that. According to the hypotheses mensioned in Chapter four, Chapter five puts up empirical study and validates the hypotheses by applying descriptive statistics, variance analysis and contingency table analysis methods combining relative data. At the end of this chapter, the author of the thesis proposes ideas and advice about replying the cultural conflicts for Sino-foreign joint ventures. The last chapter points out the insufficiency and the further direction of studying on this subject on the basis of reviewing the whole study of this thesis.
