Hubei province is the major production base of grain, oil and cotton in our country. But now the situation of agriculture growth is sterner. The stable and sustained development of Agriculture in Hubei can’t depend on merely plunging into factors of production, for achieving the stable and sustained development, the best selection is that exploring the intensification route. Therefore, we measure the growth of agricultural total factor productivity in cities of Hubei Province from2000to2012by the method of non-parametric Malmquist index. Then we analysis the growth trend of the agricultural total factor productivity, and carry out the convergence analysis of it. Finally, we analysis the internal and external factors which have influences on agricultural total factor productivity using panel date models. The results are as following:First, in the period of2000to2012, agricultural total factor productivity increased year by year, but it mainly relies on technological progress, whereas technological efficiency impedes the growth of the agricultural total factor productivity. Second, agricultural total factor productivity has evident regional variations, agricultural total factor productivity of all cities cannot trend to the same steady state. Third, agricultural R&D spending, labor capital investment, agricultural human capital, per capita net income and scale business have significant impact on agricultural total factor productivity growth. But agricultural structure adjustment degree has negative impact on agricultural total factor productivity growth. So, for addressing the problems above mentioned, we consider that improving the agriculture extension mechanism, considering the different development strategies among regions, accelerating the effective accumulation of human capital, giving full play to government regulation and providing a good institutional environment and strong policy support for agricultural total factor productivity growth.
