Measurement And Analysis Of Agricultural Total Factor Productivity Growth In Cites In Hunan Province

Improving agricultural productivity is the key to solve the three rural issues.At present, the problems in agricultural production process, such as poor infrastructure, weak science and technology, small scale, low quality of producers and evident regional variations have severely restricted the large-scale agricultural production. Traditional agricultural production depending single factor inputs is not consistent with the scientific development concept and focusing and increasing agricultural total factor productivity in the agricultural production process is scientific, economic, and sustainableTherefore, we measure the growth and trend of agricultural total factor productivity in cities of Hunan Province from 1985 to 2007 by the method of non-parametric Malmquist index, carry out the convergence analysis of agricultural total factor productivity and analyzed the long and short term factors and their intensity which have influences on agriculture total factor productivity in our province using Error Correction Model.The results are as following:first, in the period of 1985-2008,agricultural total factor productivity growth is small and mainly relies on technological progress, whereas the growth of technical efficiency is almost zero; second, agricultural total factor productivity in our province has evident regional variations and structural contradiction in agricultural production is significant; third, agricultural infrastructure, production scale, agro-system and rural Engel coefficient have significant impact on agricultural total factor productivity growth. So, for addressing the problems above-mentioned, we consider that advancing the producers'quality, expanding the scale, reinforcing regional cooperation, consolidating agricultural infrastructure construction, improving the land transfer system, increasing support for agriculture, raising the farmers'income level and so on could make agricultural total factor productivity progress, so that it can solve the low level status and structural contradiction in agricultural productivity in our province.
