| The research object of this dissertation is Orient Overseas Container Line, a public company listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Ocean container shipping is well known as one-off most complicated industry by its nature of global operation and long history. Ocean container shipping operations are including long-distance transport, different time zone, multiple work flow, booking elsewhere process, payment elsewhere process, global contract and equipment management etc; OOCL’s IT strategy is architecture driven include top down, bottom up, inside out, outside in, static and dynamic. In order to improve business efficiency, OOCL launched a corporate project-IRIS2system in1993and become a well-recognized enterprise system in the industry. IRIS2are designed on basic unit-TEU. Classified by organizational structure and market, IRIS2are divided into several modules. IRIS2system offered visibility services with different business process. Quality drive efficiency can be supported by ISO QA initiatives. Logic of this dissertation mainly are IT strategy architecture driven elaboration; IRIS2system combined with different functional departments; find out shortcomings of customer profile module and equipment repositioning process in container management module and optimization. In the end, OOCL has attained the goal of digital enterprises. And also its IT strategy interact and grow with the other enterprise strategic goals and become IT leadership in ocean container shipping industry. The dissertation has five parts.
