With the accelerated process of economic globalization, the international economic exchange becomes frequent increasingly. A country or region must involve in the global economic integration in order to make economic development. Since the reform and opening up, China has formed a pattern of opening up from coastal areas to inland areas and has made great achievements in international trade. In2012, the State Council approved the establishment of the Central Plains Economic Zone, including30inland cities of Henan, Hebei, Shanxi, Anhui and Shandong province, and proposed to build the Central Plains Economic Zone open platform to develop the inland open economy. How to improve the level of opening of the Central Plains Economic Zone to promote economic development of the Central Plains region, the key one is to enhance its foreign trade competitiveness. Foreign trade competitiveness is an important indicator of the foreign trade development level, including trade scale, trade quality and trade potential, reflecting the opening content and the external dependence of economic development for a country or region. It is in such an external and internal context, this paper combines theoretical analysis with empirical analysis. First, this paper reviews international trade theories of different stages which the foreign trade competitiveness study is based on, analyzes the internal and external environment and gives a detailed description of the foreign trade development of the Central Plains Economic Zone. In the empirical part, this paper constructs13individual indicators and uses factor analysis to evaluate the foreign trade competitiveness of the Central Plains Economic Zone, compared with the Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta economic zone.Based on the above writing ideas, this paper can be divided into five parts. The first part is an introduction, which notes the research background and significance, reviews the theoretical basis and the relevant research results at home and abroad and describes the main contents and research methods. The second part is environmental analysis. The Central Plains Economic Zone has superior traffic location, strong industrial base, huge market potential and related industries support, facing good opportunities for development. At the same time, it exists some development disadvantages, such as weaker comprehensive economic strength, lower industrial level, lack of government coordination mechanism. The Central Plains Economic Zone suffers a series of challenges from domestic and international trade environment. The third part is the status of the foreign trade development of the Central Plains Economic Zone and the comparison with other economic areas. This paper analyzes the basic situation of total import and export, commodity structure, trade area and dependence on foreign trade, compared with Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta economic zone. The fourth part is the empirical analysis of foreign trade competitiveness of the Central Plains economic zone. This paper builds the evaluation index system, introduces the principle, main steps of factor analysis and the results. The fifth part is the suggestions of enhancing the level of foreign trade competitiveness of the Central Plains economic zone.Through theoretical and empirical analysis, we believe that the Central Plains economic zone has made great process in foreign trade, but there are still large gaps compared with the Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta and other developed economic zones. The gap is mainly about smaller amount and poorer quality. Therefore, from a practical point of view, we should absorb the valuable experience of the Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta economic zone in foreign trade development. On the one hand, accelerate the pace of opening up and expand the foreign trade scale of the Central Plains economic zone. On the other hand, transform the trade growth manner, improve the trade quality and enhance the sustainable development ability of foreign trade.
