After world war II, in order to get rid of poverty and backwardness, the Japanese government adopted a government-led economic system to develop the economy. Since the mid-1950s, Japan’s economy achieved rapid growth. Japan became the world’s second largest economy and created the "Japanese miracle". However, since the economic bubble burst in the beginning of the1990s, Japan entered a period of up to ten years of recession. Recognizing the urgency and importance of the reform of the economic system, the successive Japanese governments have taken various reform measures, but with little success. Japan’s economic growth and long-term depression are subjected to a number of complex factors. However, Japan’s government-led economic system is undoubtedly an important factor.
