With the development of global urbanization,”urban agglomeration” whichis an advanced space organizing form will be theme of the urbanization in ourcountry. At present,”urban agglomeration”has become the region whereembodied the top develop level of China in the social and ecomomic as well asbe the most prominent part of the ecological environmental problems.So,expansion process of urban agglomerations in temporal and spatial anddriving forces in the development of urban agglomertions have been thoroughlyand quantitatively analyzed. It not only helps to support decision making andmanagement of sustainable development model fo urban agglomeration,but alsoprovides a scientific reference for the formation of ecological environmentproblems and solution to problems.Therefore,Yangtze River Delta Urban Agglomeration was taken for theresearch area.This paper studied change detection how to extract the featurecoverage information.Change detection is a mixture of three metheods which arethe correlation coefficient,the variation vector and difference of NDVIvalue.The feature coverage information in1980and1990was extracted based onthis method.Then,the scope of built up area was drawn out based on theclassification result of5time node.At last,this paper analyzed factors of the socialand economic how to affect the extension of urban agglomeration.The mainconclusions of this work are as following:(1) In this paper,change detection which fused the correlationcoefficient,the variation vector and difference of NDVI value and based onobject segmentation was used to extract the feature coverage information.Theresults shown that overall accuracy of combined with three methods is88.2%inShanghai,and it is greater than77.3%which is the highest precision of one ofthree motheds.And found that it could be to work less and save time if thismethod was used to extrac the feature coverage information in1980and1990.(2) This paper quantitatively analyzed the patten of expansion of urban agglomeration by using compactness index,the center of gravity displacementindex, Theil Coefficient and change intensity,and found that built up area andcentral urban area of Yangtze River Delta increased more than11.3and7.6times in nearly30years.Yangtze River Delta Urban Agglomeration developes bysprawling style.In Jangsu province,the main development patterns is linear formand the point-axis spatial development model.At the same time,in Zhejiangprovince,the development patterns is satellite city type and growth polemodel.There are differences in time.The value of expansion intensitydramatically inceased from2000.(3) The research quantitatively analyzed the drive mechanisms of urbanagglomeration expansion using panel data analysis.From the results we can knowthat the factors of the social and economic can promote urban expansion.But theinfluence of different factors is in different.Non-agricultural population haslarger influence on urban expansion.The influence in urbanization weakenedwith the increase of GDP.In addition,There is obvious different influence indifferent cities.The impact of driving factors on Zhoushan are relatively weak.
