Agriculture is the foundation of the national economy; human activities must becarried out after we satisfied our basic needs. Agriculture is the premise that our needscan be achieved, agricultural is the decisive factor of the rise and fall in traditionalsociety; agriculture not only provides consumption materials but also to provide thenecessary raw materials to the other economic sectors in modern society. Chineseagriculture has a special significance, especially in: consolidating and improving theconditions for agricultural production, improving agricultural productivity, food security, narrowing the gap between urban and rural areas, providing conditions for thedevelopment of urban and industrialized areas. however due to historical reasons andthe path of development we chose, the development of China’s urbanization andindustrialization are not on consolidate foundation of agriculture, increasing agriculturalproductivity on the basis of, even once the industrial and Urban development is at theexpense of agriculture and rural development.China has entered to the lateindustrialization, the proportion of urban population has reached52.6%, while thedevelopment of modern agriculture has lagged behind, which will have an adverseimpact on the sustainable development of agriculture itself and the further ofindustrialization and urbanization.Based on relevant literatures. firstly, this paper teased the meaning of agriculturaland relevant studies about the impacts of modernization and urbanization toagricultural, Secondly, based on the existing research results and conclusions this papergeneralized the path mechanism about how urbanization and industrialization impact onagricultural modernization; then, measured the level of provincial agriculturalmodernization through the existing evaluation methods within the of the largestagricultural area respectively, and analyzed the overall and provincial industrializationand urbanization’s impact on the modernization through PVAR and VAR model. Atlast this paper explored the paths mechanism through quantitative analysis and proposedcountermeasures under such context. This paper’s studies reached the following conclusions:Currently the modernization of agriculture in the Yangtze River basin’sdevelopment rely on its’ own accumulation, in the short term. industrialization’spositive effect on agricultural modernization only exist in short time, and turns to thenegative impact then; Urbanization’s positive impact on agricultural modernization areprimarily in the short term. And its’ negative influence on agricultural modernization is smaller than that of industrialization. In the long term, the urbanization’s impact onagricultural modernization is greater than industrialization. The results displayed thatprovincial urbanization’s positive effect on agricultural modernization is bigger thanthat of urbanization overall. Urbanization of the eastern region have a longer positiveimpact on agricultural modernization than industrialization, in the western region theresult is opposite. As the impact path, industrialization and urbanization has significant positiveimpact on agricultural modernization in the traditional path including capital andproduction tools and conditions on the whole; but in the emerging path like: marketresponse, science technology and scale effect the impact is negative, where theadjustment and development needs.
