Research On Supplier Development System Of Customized Products For Hotel Pre-Opening Period Of B Hotel Group

With the huge economical development in China, more and more new hotels are going to be opened all over the China and the hospitality industry become very competitive. The customized products play an important role to express the culture and design of a hotel. The lead time of the customized products can influence the pre-opening period while the quality of the customized products affect the hotel operation. Furthermore, the cost of the customized products can influence the period for return of investment. To achieve all above key points, it depends on the result of the supplier development. An effective supplier development system can not only make the company supply chain become more competitive, but also can increase the benefit and improve the service performance.B hotel group is one of the luxurious hotel brands which have many sub-brands. The thesis uses the customized products procurement project of Y hotel which belong to B hotel group and will be opened in China as an example to studying the supplier development of customized products for hotel pre-opening phase. B hotel group has very strict and unique requirements on the quality, materials and specifications of the customized products which combine Y hotel’s interior style and local culture. For the time being, B hotel group invites vendors for the tenders of customized products procurement and selects the vender after comparing the cost only. In such a case, B hotel group is really lack of supplier development system and supplier evaluation and selection method which can help the buyer to make a more reasonable decision. Hence, this thesis will construct a supplier development system together with application of many scientific methods of customized products procurement for hotel pre-opening period of B hotel group. The thesis summarizes the definition and five key contents of supplier development after lots of reference research, which are information source of vendor, supplier development model and method, supplier classification and relationship management of supplier development. It finds that there are some critical issues in B hotel group on supplier development for customized products procurement which include less of vendor’s information channel, lack of efficiency of the complicated procurement process, the lack of supplier evaluation and selection program, and the lack of supplier classification and relationship management after understanding purchasing demand, characteristic and procedure of FF&E purchase such as loose furniture, decorative lighting, sanitary ware, artwork and so on through the interview with purchasing manager and the personal working experience for Y hotel. To solve above issues, this thesis adopts and applies a combination of methods, including questionnaire survey, data statistics, fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method, analytic hierarchy process and managerial rate to optimize and set up a stronger supplier development system which include supplier information collection, supplier development process, supplier evaluation and selection, supplier classification and supplier relationship management. The application of supplier collection and development process will ensure better development of potential and qualified vendors to achieve quantitative change while the application of supplier classification and relationship management will work more on existing qualified vendors to achieve qualitative change. The supplier development system will be helpful for B hotel group to improve the efficiency of procurement, match the requirement of hotel operation and make the supply chain stronger. Moreover, it can provide a reference for other hotels’supplier development in customized products procurement during pre-opening period.
