Impact Of Corporate Social Capital On Technological Innovation Performance

Technological innovation is an important source of enterprise competitive advantage. In thebackground of economic globalization and networking, corporate technological innovationactivities do not rely solely on internal resources which companies have, the more important thing isto get more scarce resources from companies’ social relations network, and be able to integratethese resources effectively. Corporate technological innovation performance’s improvementdepends on gaining and using enterprise social capital. Based on the situation of relative shortage ofresources, the inevitable choice for promoting the innovative growth of enterprises is enhancingtechnological innovation performance from the perspective of corporate social capital. As atraditional superior industry in Zhejiang province, textile enterprise plays an irreplaceable role instimulating economic development and promoting employment, etc. Fostering social capital forpromoting innovation is able to inject new vitality to textile enterprises in Zhejiang province andeven in the country.From the perspective of the social capital theory, the paper took resource integration capabilityas the intermediary variable. First of all, we summarized major research results of corporate socialcapital, resource integration capability and technological innovation performance. Then combinedwith previous literature and research’ needs, we measured corporate social capital by structuraldimension, relational dimension and cognitive dimension, and divided resource integrationcapability into resource building capability and resource using capability two dimensions. Based onit, the conceptual model was developed to deduce the relationship among corporate social capital,resource integration capability and technological innovation performance. In the paper, thequestionnaire was used for collecting data, and SPSS was used for analyzing data. The mainconclusions are as follows:(1) The corporate social capital is significantly positive to technologicalinnovation performance. Especially, the structural dimension has a greater impact on technologicalinnovation performance, followed by the cognitive dimension, and the relational dimension has thesmallest impact on technological innovation performance.(2) The corporate social capital ispositive to resource integration capability. The structural, relational, cognitive dimension ofcorporate social capital are all significantly positive to resource building capability, and therelational, cognitive dimension of corporate social capital are both significantly positive to resourceusing capability.(3) Corporate resource integration capability has a significant positive effect ontechnological innovation performance. Especially resource using capability’ effect on technologicalinnovation performance is more significant than resource building capability.(4) In the process ofcorporate social capital’s positive effect on technological innovation performance, resource integration capability has played a partial intermediary role.Innovations of this paper are those. Firstly, we constructed a theoretical model amongcorporate social capital, resource integration capability and technological innovation performance.There were lacks of quantitative research. Resource acquisition was often selected as intermediaryvariables, and researchers ignored that the resource integration process was equally important.Besides, previous studies paid less attention to control variables’ influence on the process ofcorporate social capital affecting technological innovation performance. In this paper, weintroduced resource integration capability as intermediary variable, and proved that resourceintegration capability had played a partial intermediary role in the process of corporate socialcapital’s positive effect on technological innovation performance, which provides reference forstudy in related fields. Secondly, we chose textile enterprise in Zhejiang province as typical researchobject and discuss measures to enhance the technological innovation performance. From theperspective of social capital theory, this paper has expanded the horizons of the research field oftechnological innovation and explored how to increase social capital of textile enterprise inZhejiang to enhance technological innovation performance. The research provides theoretical andpractical supports for improving technological innovation capability of textile enterprise in Zhejiangprovince.
