Beijing Tourism Medical Development Environment Analysis And Countermeasures

As a new industry model, medical tourism combines medical industry and tourism industry, rooted in the demands on health. Due to the different distributions of medical resources and tourism resources between regions, when medical services are too expensive or imperfect under permanent residence, people choose to go to different places to seek appropriate medical care, health care, rehabilitation or nursing services, and at the same time including the leisure, entertainment, vacations and other tourist activities. With the development of globalization, medical tourism is growing vigorously all over the world in recent years and a large number of main medical tourism destinations are emerging. Compared with the development of medical tourism abroad, Beijing’s medical tourism industry has a late start, lack of clear policy guidelines, which development strategy for medical tourism to chose becomes the key issue to be solved in Beijing.This paper analyzes the Beijing’s medical tourism development environment and makes recommendations for the development of medical tourism in Beijing by synthetically employing the literature review, expert interviews, questionnaire survey, PESTELG analysis and SWOT analysis. Firstly, this paper analyzes the macroeconomic environment and the competitive environment for the development of medical tourism industry in Beijing through employing literature research, expert interviews, PESTELG analysis and the researcher’s own normative analysis. Secondly, this paper analyzes and summarizes the Beijing’s medical tourism market environment by employing questionnaire survey method. Finally, this paper analyzes the medical resources, tourism resources, unique Traditional Chinese Medicine resources in Beijing, discusses the lack of international certification of Beijing’s medical institutions, the shortage of medical tourism professionals and the barriers in the promotion of Chinese Medicine by employing SWOT analysis, explores the opportunities and challenges faced by Beijing’s medical tourism industry and proposes the development suggestions for Beijing’s medical tourism industry.The study finds that the development of Beijing’s medical tourism faces a favorable macroeconomic environment. What’s more, Beijing has a large resource advantage and faces a good development opportunity. So Beijing should seize the opportunity, avoid the weaknesses, exert advantages, and actively promote the development of medical tourism. Specifically, Beijing should integrate the relevant resources to form the industrial clusters advantage, highlight the characteristic resources, adopt different strategies for different target markets, implement the personnel training programs and strengthen the promotion of medical tourism to improve the visibility.The findings are hopeful for the relevant governmental departments to formulate the development strategies for Beijing’s medical tourism industry, the relevant enterprises to carry out medical travel services, and promote the development of Beijing’s medical tourism industry. The findings may also provide a reference and theoretical support for the development of medical tourism industry in other provinces.
